WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. -- Luke Swann scored the Eph's first goal of the season in the 44th minute, a tidy finish into the bottom right corner that capped off a nice move started by
Mohamed Keussom's deft chip into the box.
The Ephs bookended halftime with goals, as
Keel Brissett doubled the lead in the 48th minute off a feed from
Brady Foehl. Mount Aloysius' Luke Traynor pulled one back in the 52nd minute, but the two goal lead was restored in the 74th minute, when
Tate Michelson, whipped in a pass from the left wing, putting the ball right on
Nick Boardman's head, who powered the ball straight into the top left corner for a 3-1 lead.
The first half was all about Williams vs. the Aloysian back line, as the Ephs were caught offside five times before Swann's breakthrough, with first year
Sam Gibson having a nice volleyed goal disallowed early on when the Ephs were ruled offside.
Credit to the Mounties, whose back line remained well organized and tenacious until the final whistle, and whose Tevin Beadle, always looked dangerous. Williams had 14 shots on the day with six on goal, while the Mounties had 10 shots and six shots on goal. Mt. Alysius netminder Luke Priestly recorded three saves, while the Ephs' Ben Diffely registered five saves.
After the game, Eph head coach
Steffen Siebert stressed the impact his team's depth had in the win. "By the time we scored the first goal, there wasn't a single starter left on the field, that just shows how deep we are and how committed everybody is and that anyone on this team can make an impact," he stated.
Coach Siebert maintained his undefeated record at home on Cole Field with the win, and the Williams improved to 1-0-1. The Mounties fell to 2-3.
Next up for the Ephs is a road encounter tomorrow at Babson College starting at 12:30 PM.
