Ephs Fall To The Bobcats, 0-1 In OT

WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. - A goal 42 seconds into overtime from Bates' Anna Lindeis propelled Bates (4-1, 2-0 NESCAC) past Williams (3-1, 0-1 NESCAC) and handed the Ephs their first loss of the season.

The first quarter saw back and forth play between both the Ephs and the Bobcats. No team was able to capitalize from the plays as the Ephs managed to get one shot off and the Bobcats failed to get a shot.

The second quarter saw much more attacking pressure from the Ephs. They managed to get 10 shots off but the Bates keeper saved 4 to keep the game scoreless. First year Pilar Torres found herself in the circle 20:16 into the game but put the ball just over the net.

In the third quarter, the Bobcats applied high pressure to the Ephs backline as they outshot the Ephs 6 to 1 in the quarter. Junior goalkeeper Gates Tenerowicz kept the Ephs in the game by making 3 crucial saves.

Heading into the final minutes of regular time, the Ephs were awarded a penalty corner with just 2:51 left on the clock. Senior Catherine Torres takes a shot but Bates goalkeeper Grace Biddle was there to save it. The ball lands to senior Emily Batchelor who puts the shot just wide, making it the final crucial attempt before overtime.

At the 60:42 mark, a penalty corner by Bates' Kami Lambert finds Anna Lindeis who launches a rocket past Ephs goalkeeper Gates Tenerowicz, ending the game in a dramatic fashion and handing the Ephs their first loss of the season. Despite the Ephs outshooting the Bobcats 17-9, the Bobcats were the ones to put the ball in the back of the net.

"Obviously a disappointing loss but well played by Bates," said head coach Alix Barrale. "What a rocket of a shot at the end so I really feel like they earned that win. I feel like we just weren't capitalizing in the circle. We played a little frantic and frenzied and didn't play our usual style of path of a passing game so I think these are easy fixes but we've just got to find that within us."

The Ephs will look to bounce back at home tomorrow, September 18th, against the Tufts Jumbos in a 1:00 PM contest on Williamson Field.
