WATERVILLE, MAINE - Senior Emily Batchelor completes a hat trick in the third quarter and first year Pilar Torres finishes the scoring for the day as Williams (4-2, 1-2 NESCAC) gets a 4-1 victory over Colby (3-3, 0-3 NESCAC).
The first goal of the day for Emily Batchelor came eight minutes into the first quarter. Junior Liz Scarcella found Batchelor on the far side who lifted the ball into the top left corner to give the Ephs a 1-0 lead.Â
With the Mules first shot of the game at the 18:00 mark, the Ephs were unable to clear it and Colby's Pernilla Shaw tipped it into the back of the net in a scramble to tie up the game 1-1. The Ephs, however, kept the pressure high and continued to dominate as they got a goal less than 30 seconds before the halftime break. First year Kiki Higgins passed it to Batchelor who found the back of the net again, this time placed into the lower left corner.Â
The Scarcella-Batchelor connection was very well present 4:34 into the third quarter when Scarcella found Batchelor, who lifted the ball into the top left corner for her third goal of the day and 9th of the season. Scarcella got herself two assists in today's game. The Torres sister duo struck at the 43:48 mark when senior Catherine Torres found Pilar to give Williams a 4-1 lead and end the scoring for the day.
The Ephs outshot the Mules 14-4, with 7 of those shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Gates Tenerowicz played a crucial role in the second half to prevent the Mules from scoring again.Â
Head Coach Alix Barrale reflects on the win: "Exciting win today. Had to fight for every inch against a tenacious Colby defense. Emily Batchelor found the back of the net 3 times. She added a big spark in the offensive circle. The fourth goal that helped seal the win was the dynamic sister duo of Catherine and Pilar: Pilar scored the goal off a nice pass from Catherine. Gates was stellar in goal in the second half, shutting down Colby's attacking offense."
The Ephs look to carry this momentum into tomorrow's clash against Bowdoin at 12:00 PM in Brunswick, Maine.
