SPRINGFIELD, MA – Williams College (5-2-1) tied Springfield College (4-2-1) in their first midweek game of the season.
The Ephs took the first shot of the game, but Springfield scored first with a goal in the 5
th minute. Williams did not let that discourage them and put up six more shots before senior
Tess Belnap scored in the 34th minute.
The second half was led by the Ephs offense as well, with seven corner kicks and ten shots. Junior
Claire Tolliver and senior
Emma Lynch were relentless on the attack, with four and three shots respectively in the game. First-year keeper
Margaret Huelin clocked two saves on the day.
Eoh head coach Sara Raymond commented after the game, "After going down early in the game, we settled and started to dominate possession. We were able to get into their attacking third consistently and create some scoring opportunities. We did not connect well with our shots which was the difference between a win and the tie today.
Tess Belnap had a very composed finish on a breakaway to level the score and freshman
Paige Nelson was outstanding in a new role in the second half to help limit their counter attacks. Overall, we competed hard and made some good plays, but couldn't quite capitalize on them."
Williams will take on Amherst College in another NESCAC showdown this Saturday at Cole Field at 12:00pm
