FULL RESULTS
The Ephwomen took the win yesterday at home against NESCAC opponent Connecticut College, 195-100. This extends the Williams Women's Swim and Dive team's Division III dual meet winning streak, which began in 2008, to 124 wins. The Ephwomen won 15 of 16 events, including both diving events and both relays. This meet was also the "Senior Meet," where the Ephwomen recognized this year's graduating class, consisting of Maddie Annis '23, Isabel Bushway '23, Emma Casey '23, and Georgia Panitz '22.5.
Maddie Annis is a Biology major with concentrations in Public Health and Environmental Science from Baltimore, Maryland. Yesterday, she swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.91, a fast in-season swim for Annis, who specializes in the 200 breaststroke. She was joined by Rika Yahashiri '25, who had a great swim to win the race in 1:08.89. Sarah Johnson '23.5 took second in 1:09.31, and Liz Ramoy '25 took third in 1:10.40. Annis also found herself in the 200 backstroke, an event she does not normally swim, where she went a college-best in 2:23.73. Annis was joined in the 200 backstroke by Isabel Bushway, a Physics and Math double major from Schenectady, New York. Bushway swam a consistent 200 backstroke in 2:27.74. The event was won (by almost a full 10 seconds) by first year Lily Codd '25, who swam a terrific 2:06.84.
Emma Casey is a Theater and English double major from Hauppauge, New York. She dove on both 1m and 3m today, winning both boards with final scores of 276.22 and 296.25. She was joined by teammate Adelaide Herman '25, who took second on both boards with final scores of 268.27 and 271.50. Both Casey and Herman had a fantastic day on the boards, and their performances officially qualified them for the NCAA Diving Regional Meet in February, where they will compete for a spot at the NCAA Division III Championship Meet in Greensboro, NC on March 15-18.
Georgia Panitz is a History and Political Science double major from New Albany, Ohio. She took home the win today in the 500 freestyle in a very consistent 5:09.58. She was joined by Amanda Wager '23.5, who took second place in an in-season personal best time of 5:12.39 and Gracie O'Connell '26, who took third place in what was also her fastest in-season 500 freestyle with a hard-fought 5:13.86.
Panitz also anchored the winning 200 medley relay to open up the meet. The winning team posted a time of 1:46.53 and included Caitlin Murphy '24 (27.56), Wager (29.77), Samantha Kilcoyne '23.5 (24.68), and Panitz (24.52). Another Williams team took second place in a time of 1:49.63 and included Molly Arts '24 (28.25), Charlotte Wishnack '25 (30.31), Gabby Lopez-Ona '24 (26.67), and Irene Yang '26 (24.40). This was Molly Arts' first swim for the Ephwomen this season.
Yesterday's meet also featured the longest swimming event: the 1650 freestyle. Emma Schulman '24, swam her fifth 1650 freestyle ever to take the win in 17:39.04. She swam a very gusty race, taking it out fast with a first 500 split of 5:15.42. Frances Hayward '24 swam a very steady race to take second, beating the fastest Connecticut College swimmer by close to 50 seconds, in a time of 17:51.82.
The top 3 spots of the 200 freestyle were swept by Williams swimmers, with Sophia Verkleeren '25 taking the win in a very speedy 1:54.94, Wager taking second in a very good in-season swim of 1:56.47, and Lopez-Ona taking third in 2:00.75. Verkleeren also won the 50 freestyle in 24.72, and was followed by Zora Vujovic '25 in 24.95 and Amy Zhao '25 in 25.18. The final sprint freestyle event of the day, the 100 freestyle, was won by Kilcoyne in 53.32. Hayward, typically a distance swimmer, swam a very fast 55.17.
The 200 breaststroke was dominated by Verkleereen by close to 6.5 seconds, as she cruised to the wall in a final time of 2:24.73. This was her lifetime best time. Johnson made it a 1-2 finish for the Ephs as she finished in 2:31.31. Yang had a great swim in the 100 backstroke today, an event she does not normally swim, as she blazed to the wall in 59.11. Bainon Hart '24 finished in 1:00.59 and was followed closely by Aly Eward '26 in 1:00.93.
Today's butterfly events featured some great swims for the Ephwomen. Kilcoyne won the 200 butterfly in an in-season best of 2:04.08, and she was followed closely by Codd in 2:06.17. It was a 1-2-3-4 finish for the Ephs as Wishnack grabbed third for the Ephwomen in 2:11.68 and O'Connell took fourth in 2:11.95. Yang took the win in the 100 butterfly in a time of 59.36, just outtouching Zhao in 59.38. Wishnack (59.62), Ramoy (59.83), and Vujovic (1:00.74) also had great swims.
The final individual event of the meet was the 200 IM, where Codd took her second win of the day in a time of 2:10.32. Panitz swam well for second in a time of 2:11.77 and Hart took third in 2:13.15.
The meet concluded with the 200 freestyle relays. The team of Yang (25.15), Vujovic (24.46), Verkleeren (24.66), and Schulman (24.64) comfortably took the win in 1:38.91. The team of Murphy (25.58), Yahashiri (25.36), Wishnack (25.35), and Zhao (24.48) were just outttouched for second by Connecticut College's 'A' team, as they placed third in a time of 1:40.77.
Next weekend is the Ephwomen's final weekend of dual meet competition for the 2022-23 season. On Friday Jan. 20, they take on MIT and NYU at home at 2:00pm. On Saturday, they take on NESCAC opponents Middlebury and Hamilton at Middlebury at 1:00pm. Coach Kuster shared his thoughts on the meet and the Ephwomen's upcoming weekend of competitions: "I thought the women had a strong performance today, certainly a nice way to end the week and honor the seniors. We've done some good things over the last 2 weeks and I look forward to seeing this team step up to the challenge of MIT/NYU and our two meets in consecutive days."
