A moment of silence was observed prior to the start of the game in remembrance of Manhattanville ice hockey player Abigail Harris who passed away on Thursday after a courageous battle with cancer.

Williamstown, MA — The Williams College Ephs (6-4) started 2023 with a bang; goaltender Erin Pye completed her first collegiate shutout and the offense tallied five as they downed Manhattanville College (7-5).
Â
The Ephs came out flying from the gates, maintaining steady possession, and creating several chances early on. Despite three penalties in the opening frame, both teams remained goalless until the dying seconds of the period. With just 50 seconds remaining, Leah Rubinshteyn would fire Williams into the lead off assists from Maddie Tix and Ellia Chiang. The Ephs would have a chance to double their advantage with just a second left, but a great save from the Manhattanville netminder would keep the lead at one.Â
Â
The visiting team looked sharper in the second period, registering grade-A chances early on. Defensively, the Ephs remained solid and goalie Erin Pye would continue her great work in the net to keep Manhattanville off the board.Â
Â
Williams would rally back, and midway through the second, they would find their second. Kelly McCarthy would bury home a chance from Christina Halloran and Claire Murphy to give the Ephs some breathing room. It wouldn't take them long to find a third, as Maddie Tix would score to extend the lead to three heading into the locker room.Â
Â
After the break, Williams would keep on rolling as Leah Rubinshteyn would convert on a breakaway pass from Quinn Dawson. Robin Kitazano would tack on another goal late in the game as Williams cruised to a 5-0 victory.Â
Â
After the game, Coach Gilles had this to say: "It was a good way to start the New Year, we have really good NESCAC opponents coming up and then our only other non-conference game is Plattsburgh, and they're one of the best teams in the country. It was good to get Erin Pye's first college shutout today and then have five put on the board".
