Williamstown, MA — Late into the third period, the Williams College Ephs (5-11-1,3-7-1) and Tufts University (5-11-1,2-8-1) were deadlocked at 0-0. After Jake Monroe opened the scoring for the Ephs, Mac Carso would fire home a second to usher Williams to a 2-1 win.
The opening frame saw constant back-and-forth action with neither team able to crack through. Williams would dominate much of the possession and shots in the first, however, Tufts held strong to maintain the scoreless game.
The Jumbos would come out much stronger in the second period, though, testing Evan Ruschil on multiple occasions. The senior, freshly back from the FISU Games for Team US, stood on his head and helped the Ephs stay level heading into the locker room.
After two scrappy periods, the Ephs finally started to maintain pressure and the grade-A chances began to flow. A bouncing puck rattled off the post and fell at the feet of Jake Monroe; he reacted quickly and slotted home the chance to take the 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, Mac Carso found the puck on his stick approaching a Jumbos defender. He skillfully dragged the puck inside and fired it into the top corner to double the lead late in the third. Despite a late Jumbos 6-on-5 goal, the Ephs would hold off the pressure to win 2-1.
The Ephs will look to continue rolling during Alumni Weekend as they face Connecticut College tomorrow at 3pm.
