Women's Volleyball Sweeps Colby on Senior Night

Williamstown, MA - Williams College (13-8, 4-5 NESCAC) hosted Colby College (16-7, 6-3 NESCAC) and came out victorious in a 3-0 win. Prior to the match, the Ephs celebrated the careers of their four seniors on the team: Celia Adams, Marit Hoyem, Lauren Kauppila, and Caroline Tosolini.

The third set was dominated by the Ephs early on, and the Mules were forced to quickly use their only two timeouts of the set after being down 9-3 and 14-7. Although Williams expanded their lead to 18-10, a quick four point run by Colby led to the Ephs calling a timeout of their own. The Ephs quickly got back on track though, and ended the match on a tear, securing the third set 25-17 after a kill by first year Keely Campuzano.

The first set got off to a roaring start for Williams as they established an early 10-4 lead behind kills from four different Ephs. The Mules won five of the next seven points to cut the deficit in half, but Marit Hoyem contributed two kills and two blocks while the Ephs rebuilt their lead, pushing ahead to 18-10 heading into a timeout by Colby. Williams fought onwards to the finish line, and although the Mules saved three set points, Keely Campuzano ended the first set 25-19 with a powerful kill off an overpass.

Colby controlled much of the early action in the second set as they maintained a small lead over Williams, but the Ephs got back to back kills from sophomore Helen Qian and Kelly Campuzano to tie the score at 12-12. Williams took their first lead of the set the very next point when miscommunication by the Mules led to an easy point for the Ephs. The teams traded the lead back and forth and headed into the home stretch with the score knotted at 20-20 following a double block by sophomore Sydney Eyestone and Helen Qian of the Ephs. Both teams had set point opportunities but it was Williams who came out on top, claiming the third set 28-26 after an error from Colby.

Colby leaders were: first year Brady Moseley with 9 kills, first year Jordan Lee with 14 assists, and first year Brady Moseley with 16 digs. Williams leaders were: Keely Campuzano with 12 kills, first year Morgan Daetz with 16 assists, and junior Sidra Wohlwend with 16 digs.

Reflecting on ending the regular season on a high note, Celia Adams commented that "the team has had a couple of really great weeks of practice so I think we will go into this week with the mentality of just taking it one day at a time, learning from what we did this weekend and being focused as a team and ready to practice for this weekend." Following up on her teammate's comments, Lauren Kauppila stressed the importance of "being confident no matter who we play next Friday and being able to control the action, and that we keep getting better every game."

With their own regular season over, the Ephs await the results of Saturday's action around the conference to learn their matchup for next week's NESCAC tournament, which begins on Friday, November 3rd.
