Box Score LEWISTON, MAINE -- Williams started fast and didn't stop on Saturday, as the Ephs finished their season with an emphatic win on the road at Bates. Freshman quarterback
Owen McHugh finished 14-21 for 245 yards and two touchdowns, and senior
Jack Dickinson added another touchdown pass.
Williams (3-6) scored on each of their first four drives, beginning with a 9-play, 75-yard opening effort that ended in a 15-yard pass from McHugh to
Paul Harshbarger. After forcing a stop, the Ephs went on another long drive culminating in a 36-yard field goal from
Ivan Shuran to extend the lead to 10-0.Â
As the second quarter began, Williams found themselves driving yet again. A 48-yard pass from McHugh to Brady Stahelski set the Ephs up in the red zone and McHugh scampered in from eight yards out for a touchdown increasing the Eph lead to 16, 16-0, however, the PAT failed. An interception by Campbell Pang gave the Ephs possession again and McHugh found another receiver, Riley Connell, for a 12-yard score. Another interception late in the second quarter, this one by Nate Dlugos, led to another score, a 36-yard touchdown pass from Harshbarger to Cameron Lee. This brought the Ephs lead to 30-0 as the game reached halftime.Â
Bates opened the second half with a strong drive that reached the Williams 15-yard line, but a fumble forced by Jack Wallace halted momentum for the Bobcats and led to yet another touchdown drive for the Ephs. Will Sheskey rushed in from ten yards out to make it 37-0. The final score came late in the fourth quarter on a Dickinson pass to Jack Ledden.
The Ephs defense shined, holding Bates to 163 total yards on the day. Senior Tim Landolfi led the team with 7 tackles, and James Hemmer added 5 more, including several key QB rushes on third downs early in the game.Â
Eph head coach Mark Raymond celebrated his team's ability to win on the road, saying, "They made the trip with a purpose and played really well in all phases." Â
Williams played this final contest later in the season than originally scheduled because of a lock down and shelter in place order in Lewiston, Maine where Bates is located after a mass shooting incident weeks earlier in the city of Lewiston.
