Ephs Down Camels Behind Stellar Special Teams Outing

New London, CT - The Williams College Ephs (2-1-0, 2-1-0 NESCAC) defeated the Connecticut College Camels (2-2-1, 1-2-0 NESCAC in their first away contest of the season.

By the Numbers

  • The Ephs were able to defeat the Camels despite being out shot on shots on goal by a margin of 30-19, primarily due to Erin Pye's stellar performance in net, recording 30 saves.

  • The Ephs went 2/3 on the power play, while the Camels were 0/2.

  • All three of the Ephs' goals this game (2 on the power play and 1 short handed) were scored by special teams units.

Game Recap

With the game deadlocked at 0-0 midway through the second period, the Ephs found themselves short handed. In a similar fashion to last weekend's 5-2 victory against Bowdoin, sophomore forward Leah Rubinshteyn found herself on the breakaway and netted her first of two goals on the day that led the Ephs to a 3-0 win (9:38).

The first period was highly contested, with both teams getting an ample amount of shots off. However, neither team was able to find the back of the net due to the great play of the Camels'  Jillian Wexler and the Ephs' Erin Pye, who recorded her first shutout of the season.

Other than Rubinshteyn's goal, the second period was quite uneventful for the Ephs. Maddie Zack, Jaelyn Kiever, and Jill Parsons all recorded shots during the period.

The third period saw the Ephs run away with the game. On the power play early into the period, Quinn Dawson delivered a powerful slap shot goal to give the Ephs a 2-0 lead (5:08). Soon after, Rubinshteyn recorded her second goal of the game on an Eph power play, shooting the puck into the top left of the net over Wexler's shoulder, to secure the Ephs' 3-0 win (8:33).

After the game, Eph head coach Meghan Gillis commented, "Erin played great and made key saves when we needed them today. It was great to see her get the shutout. The team was again impressive on special teams tonight with the two power play and the short handed goal."

Tomorrow, the Ephs will once again face the Camels in New London, CT, with puck drop scheduled for 3:00 PM.
