Game Recap

Beverly, Mass. - The Williams College Ephs (4-1-1, 3-1-0 NESCAC) drew against the #15 Endicott College Gulls (8-4-1, 5-2-0 CCC), powered by a 3rd period rally.

The Gulls opened the game's scoring action quite early, with a  goal at 1:02 giving them a 1-0 advantage. They carried this momentum into the 2nd period, capitalizing on a chance in the offensive zone to bring their lead to 2-0 (10:43). The Ephs responded with a sense of urgency, and a Gulls penalty set up a power play opportunity that proved fruitful for the away side. Claire Murphy cashed in the power play goal for the Ephs, her second goal of the weekend, bringing the score to 2-1 (13:22). However, the Gulls refused to allow the Ephs to end the period with momentum in their favor, and scored about a minute later to recapture a two goal advantage (14:28).

The story of the game was the Ephs' third period performance, specifically, a two minute stretch where the Ephs scored two goals to tie the game. Robin Kitazono found the back of the net first at 11:16, and Quinn Dawson followed soon after (12:32). The rest of the period remained scoreless and the two teams entered overtime with the score tied at 3-3.

The five minute overtime period, although highly contested, was scoreless. Eph sophomore goaltender Erin Pye made a number of clutch saves to prevent the Gulls from pulling away. A shoot-out ensued in which the Gulls scored two goals to the Ephs' one.

After the game, Eph head coach Meghan Gillis commented, "I think we started off a little slow and would have liked that first quick goal against back. I am so proud of the team for their connected and relentless play in the third. They built off each other and came back against a nationally ranked opponent."

The Ephs' next contest will be on December 30th against Adrian College on Chalreston, S.C.—puck drop is scheduled for 11:30 AM.
