Game Recap

North Charleston, SC - The Williams College Ephs (4-3-1, 3-1-0 NESCAC) were defeated by the Hamline University Pipers (9-3-0, 5-1-0 MIAC) in a close 2-1 contest, in their last game of the calendar year.

With the Ephs trailing 1-0 early into the second period, Williams received two consecutive penalties, granting the Pipers a 5 on 3 power play opportunity. The Pipers capitalized quickly, and their second goal of the game proved to be enough to secure a victory (5:07).

The Pipers opened the game's scoring early into the first period, when sophomore forward Annika Lindgren slipped a shot past Erin Pye to give the Pipers the lead (1:46). The Ephs were out shot by the Pipers 26-8 during the inaugural period, limiting their offensive opportunities and rendering them unable to score during the period.

The second period was characterized by penalty struggles for the Ephs, totaling four penalties in the period. These penalties allowed the Pipers to net their second goal of the game and the lone goal of the period.

The Ephs' third period was a massive improvement from their second period; the squad was disciplined, receiving zero penalties, and scored their first goal of the game, credited to Anna DiChristina (9:54). While the Ephs held the Pipers scoreless during the period, they were unable to follow-up DiChristina's goal and tie the game, and the buzzer sounded with a Piper victory.

After the game, Eph head coach Meghan Gillis commented, "Playing two of the top teams in the nation definitely helped us prepare for our upcoming conference games. Their speed, physicality and skill challenged us."

The Ephs will resume conference play on January 5th, 2024, when they face Wesleyan University at home at 7pm.
