PHILADELPHIA, PA – This afternoon, in their final match of the season, the Williams Women's Squash team faced off against rival Amherst for the second year in a row. The Ephs had clinched a 5-4 battle over the Mammoths one month ago on their home courts, and they were prepared for another fight. Despite a tremendous effort, specifically from the stellar senior class, the Ephs were outplayed 6 to 3.
Senior #8
Mira Kamat put the first point on the board today for the Ephs. She stayed calm to come back from a 1-0 deficit to clinch her final college match 3-1. Next door, #6
Roshni Pal battled a strong competitor and unfortunately fell in straight games. #2
Quan Ng left in all on the court today. She played beautiful squash but came up just short in a few 11-9 games which brought the Mammoths to their second point.
As the second round began, #5
Deena Iqbal played a magnificent match. After dropping the first game, she kept fighting, and took her opponent down 3-1. #7
Nora Brant started off strong with a 14-12 win in the first but was unable to carry the momentum to the end of the match and fell 3-1. #3
Theresa Kay reached the same result after taking the second game. She stayed in it until the very end losing 12-10 in the fourth.
#9
Nikita Srivastava finished up her collegiate career with a brilliant 3-0 victory over Amherst. Next door, #4
Amanda Solecki began the fifth 4-game match of the day. She played smart and aggressive to clinch the first game, but her Mammoth opponent secured the next 3 to bring Amherst to their 5
th win. The day finished up with a final match from a true star #1
Haley Jefferson. Although the senior was outplayed 3-1, she exemplified true grit on court this afternoon.
