Williams Lose 19-11 to #9 Johns Hopkins

Winter Haven, FL - In their final game of the Florida portion of their spring trip, the Ephs took on the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, ranked #9 by D3Baseball.com. Williams lost 19-11 on Friday. The ball was given to LHP Eric Gage for the contest. 

The Ephs opened up the scoring in the first inning. Loading the bases with two outs, Brendan Stannard drew a walk to score one run. Sasha Palma then ripped a frozen rope into the left centerfield gap to clear the bases. Daniel Lynch followed with a base hit up the middle to plate Palma with Luca Lopetrone ripping another double to score him. The Ephs were up 6-0 going into the bottom of the 1st inning.

The Blue Jays would answer back with as much fire, scoring four runs in their half of the 1st by way of the double and tying the ball-game in the 2nd inning with a two run home run by Cooper. Williams would reclaim the lead with a solo home run by Lopetrone, the first of his collegiate career. 

The onslaught from Hopkins would continue in the 3rd, scoring 6 runs on many walks and extra base hits. Whitney drew a walk, scoring one run, Winkur was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Souvignier singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs, and Steerer tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. The Williams College Ephs scored when Dave Mosrie hit his second homer of the year. Johns Hopkins Blue Jays then answered when Souvignier grounded out, scoring one run.

Eric Gage took the loss for Williams College Ephs. Gage surrendered 12 runs on six hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Despite the loss, Williams College Ephs racked up 12 hits on the day. Palma, Lopetrone, and Cole Whitehouse all had multiple hits for Williams College Ephs. Palma went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Williams College Ephs in hits.
