Ephs Defeat Connecticut College 17-4 for 6th Victory in a Row

WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. – The Williams women's lacrosse team (6–1, NESCAC 3–1) beat the Connecticut College Camels (4–3, NESCAC 0–3) on their home turf of Farley-Lamb Field on Saturday. It was Connecticut College who slotted home the first goal of the game, but Williams then rattled off 7 unanswered goals in the first quarter. The Ephs' momentum continued throughout the game, leading to an impressive 17-4 win.

With Caroline Pratt '25 in goal for the Ephs and Violette Nidds in goal for the Camels, the game was off to a strong start for Connecticut College, despite the snow. Less than 60 seconds into the game, Emily Yorns rang in the first goal off a pass from Campbell Johnston, putting the Camels on the board 1-0. At 13:49, the Ephs' Isabel Arvelo '23 tied up the game. Claudia Russell '25 kept up Williams' momentum, netting at 12:21 with an assist by Isabel Arvelo, making it 2-1 for Williams. 

At 9:34, Elsa Dean-Muncie '25 scored on a free position shot, increasing the Ephs' lead to 3-1. Just when it looked like Connecticut College was going to score, Molly Hellman '24's defensive skills got in their way. Isabel Arvelo brought in her second goal of the contest at 4:39, increasing the Ephs' lead to 3. Claudia Russell then put one past Camels goalie Violette Nidds at 3:05 bringing the Ephs to 5-1.

Sasha Landau '25 picked up the Ephs' sixth goal off a pass from Franny Donohue '26 with 1:47 left in the game, giving the Ephs an impressive 5-goal lead. But the Ephs weren't done yet — with just 13 seconds left in the quarter, Paige Nelson '26 scored, bringing the Ephs to 7-1 going into the second quarter.

Williams started the second quarter off strong with a goal by Katy McCullough '26 off a pass from Elsa Dean-Muncie at 14:12 giving the Ephs an 8-1 advantage. Caroline Pratt denied the Camels a free position opportunity, then deflecting two more shots. 

Even in a player-down situation, the Ephs increased their lead to 9-1 when Lauren Morganlander '26 netted with an assist by Franny Donohue. Meaghan Day '26 then brought the Ephs into double digits with an unassisted goal at 7:37. 

Keeping up the Ephs' scoring streak, Franny Donohue slotted one home off a pass from Elsa Dean-Muncie at 2:38 for a 10-point lead over the Camels. With just 4 seconds left in the quarter, Claudia Russell took advantage of a free position shot, putting the Ephs at 12-1 going into the second half. 

Caitlyn Joyce '23 went in goal for the Ephs while Violette Nidds stayed in goal for the Camels. At 13:42, Claudia Russell took advantage of another free position shot and gave the Ephs a 13-1 advantage. Just after missing a free position shot, Abby Godwin '24 raked in a goal of her own at 10:04 unassisted. In a player-up situation at 7:09, Franny Donohue scored on an over-the-shoulder shot off a pass from Meghan Keenan '23 upping the Ephs' lead to 15-1. 

After 15 straight goals by the Ephs, the Camels slotted home one of their own at 4:40 when Kate Coughlin scored with an assist by Aine Downey. Connecticut College's Emily Yorns followed suit, netting at 3:34 off a pass from Emma Ognibene. The score now sat at 15-3 in favor of Williams going into the final quarter.

Anj Raman '24 went in goal for the Ephs for the final quarter, saving a shot by Connecticut College's Suzie Smith at 13:42. At 12:31, the Ephs increased their lead to 16-3 when Anna Miller '26 netted with an assist by Isabel Arvelo. The Camels' Kate Coughlin scored her second goal of the contest at 10:31 off a pass from Caroline Bruce — the Camels now sat at 4-16. 

With 1:20 left in the game, Christina Halloran '24 scored off a pass from Abby Godwin, making the final score 17-4 and giving the Ephs their sixth victory in a row.

Connecticut College goalie Violette Nidds made 8 saves and allowed 17 goals, while Williams goalie Caroline Pratt made 3 saves and allowed one goal, Caitlyn Joyce made no saves and allowed 2 goals, and Anj Raman made 2 saves and allowed one goal on the day.

"As a unit across the board, offensively, defensively, the way we moved the ball — we were very successful. Defensively we did a great job of just shutting them down throughout the game across the four quarters," said Eph head coach Alice Lee

On Tuesday, the Ephs travel to Colorado Springs to face off against the Colorado College Tigers at 4 p.m. Eastern, 2 p.m. Mountain Time.
