Ephs Down Skidmore 16-2 On the Road

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Williams women's lacrosse team (2-1) broke open a 1-1 game in the first quarter by rattling off 10 unanswered goals in the first half to take an 11-1 lead at the break and went on to down host Skidmore (1-2) 16-2. The Ephs scored on 11 of the first 13 shots.
 
At 10:53 in the first quarter Isabel Arvelo put the Ephs up 1-0 with an unassisted tally. Just over 4 minutes later Camille Pantone scored off a feed from Avery Geddes for Skidmore to tie the game at 1. Katherine McCullough gave the Ephs the lead back at 6:13 when she converted off a pass from Claudia Russell to make it 2-1 Ephs. Sasha Landau scored the third Eph goal with Claudia Russell assisting and then Katherine McCullough closed out the scoring in the first quarter when she scored off a pass from Franny Donohue.
 
The second quarter belonged to the Ephs. 13:09 Isabel Arvelo converted on a free position opportunity 5-1 – 4 straight goals for the Ephs. 11:08 Franny Donohue makes it 6-1 when she scores off a pass from Isabel Arvelo forcing Skidmore to take a timeout. However, the Ephs kept on scoring.
 
At 8:02 Meaghan Day netted a free position goal with the Ephs in a man-up situation, 7-1 – 6 straight goals. 5:50 Abby Godwin scored with Isabel Arvelo credited with another assist 8-1, - 7 straight goals by the Ephs. With 4:53 remaining in the quarter and after a long run from near midfield Franny Donohue tallied her second goal of the contest 9-1 – 8 straight goals.  
 
3:32 Grace Collier scored from 12 yards out off a pass from Christina Halloran – 10-1 – 9 straight goals. 1:14 Christina Halloran slotted home the last goal of the first half off a pass from Franny Donohue – 11-1 – 10 straight Eph goals.
 
In the first half Skidmore goalie Phoebe Beshlian had 2 saves and allowed 11 goals, while Eph goalie Caitlin Joyce  made 1 save and allowed 1 goal.
 
Both teams switched out their goalies for the second half. Skidmore inserted Liz Kazanjian, while Caroline Pratt went in goal for the Ephs. At 13:06 Pratt denied a free position opportunity by Skidmore's Elizabeth Walsh.
 
11:40 Franny Donohue scored off a pass from Abby Godwin to up the Eph lead to 12-1 – 11 straight goals.
 
Skidmore's Jillian Lockwood with Gabriella Modesti assisting finally ended the Eph run of consecutive goals notching the Thoroughbreds' second and final goal.
 
In the fourth quarter the Ephs got goals from Lauren Morganlander unassisted, Christina Halloran off a pass from Claudia Russell, Shea van den Broek unassisted and the final goal by Shea van den Broek was from a pass from Isabel Arvelo.
 
Franny Donohue led the Ephs with 3 goals, Christina Halloran, Shea van den Broek, Isabel Arvelo and Katherine McCullough had 2 each. Arvelo and Claudia Russell each recorded 3 assists.
 
Skidmore goalie Liv Kazanjian had 2 saves and allowed 5 goals, while the Ephs' Caroline Pratt made 1 save and allowed 1 goal.
 
The Ephs collected 18 ground balls and caused 9 turnovers, while Skidmore had 9 ground balls and caused 6 turnovers.
 
Eph head coach Alice Lee stated, "Skidmore's a good team, but we stuck to our game plan on team defense and team offense and took care of the little things. I was pleased to see some of our first years get on the scoreboard. Our defense held Skidmore to just 8 shots and on offense 11 of our 16 goals were assisted."
 
Next up for the Ephs is home encounter with NESCAC foe Colby at noon on Saturday on Farley-Lamb Field.
