Early Williams Rally Lifts Ephs Over Bates 18-6

Williamstown, MA – Finally back at home, Williams College (5-3, 4-1) hosted Bates College (1-7, 0-5) this afternoon. Following a back-and-forth early contest, Nick Bates would get the Ephs firing as he began a nine-goal run stretching over two quarters to put the game out of reach for Bates.

To avoid dropping three games in a row, Williams was in search of a strong opening quarter to help turn the tides. Bates would have other plans early on as they would open the scoring just thirty seconds into the contest. The Ephs would provide a quick response through a Calvin Caputo goal to level the game. After another Bates goal, Williams would answer emphatically with three unanswered to end the quarter. Nick Bates would get the ball rolling at 8:32, then Pearse Glavin would finish a man-up opportunity before Cade Shuckman would end the quarter with a buzzer beater to put the Ephs ahead 4-2.

Simply put, the second frame would belong to the Ephs. Williams would not let the brief intermission ruin their momentum as they struck for six more goals in the quarter. Finlay MacKnight would kick it off with a goal from a feed from Bjorn Davidson before Caputo would assist Glavin to make it 6-2. Ryan Johnson would add a pair of goals just thirty seconds apart to extend the lead to 8-2. Pearse Glavin then completed his hat trick at the 3:47 mark. Finally, the man who started the rally in the first quarter, Nick Bates, would end it as his goal put the Ephs up 10-2 going into the second half.

The Ephs would finally concede a goal  early into the third quarter, however, the offense would not stop their groove. Pearse Glavin saw Ryan Johnson's double in the second quarter and thought "I can beat that". The junior would score thirteen seconds apart to bring the momentum back for the home team. MacKnight would add another a few minutes later as the Ephs headed into the final quarter up 13-3.

Hungry for more, the Ephs' Adam Figler scored early before setting up Will Doran minutes later. With the Ephs up 15-3, Bates would claw a few goals back before the Ephs would silence their rally. Figler again drew an assist on a goal from Ben Wilen before Harry Appelt and Harrison Cross would round out the scoring on the day for the Ephs. Bates would grab a late goal, but the damage had been done as the Ephs won 18-6.

After the win, Coach McCormack said, "Our team played well on both sides of the ball today. Happy to see 12 different players score and also have our face-off man Ian Kim have a solid day".

The Ephs will next hit the road to face the Tufts University Jumbos on Wednesday at 7PM.
