Ephs Defeat No. 23 Hamilton 9-8, Securing 10th Consecutive Win

WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. – The Williams women's lacrosse team (10–1, 5–1 NESCAC) beat the Hamilton Continentals (4–8, 1–7 NESCAC) today on the Ephs' home turf of Farley Lamb Field. After a game that was truly back-and-forth until the very end, the Ephs ended up on top by one goal at 9-8.

The game began with Caroline Pratt '25 in goal for the Ephs and Maeve Luparello in goal for the Continentals. Alex Orlando scored for Hamilton 50 seconds into the game off a pass from Sarah Stonestreet, kicking off the first quarter scoring. Hamilton's Abby Smith kept up the momentum, netting on a free position shot at 11:38, putting the Continentals at a 2-0 advantage. 

But at 3:39, Claudia Russell '25 broke the Continentals' scoring streak and slotted home one of her own unassisted. Franny Donohue '26 followed suit at 2:15, scoring off a pass from Meaghan Day '26 and tying the game at two going into the second quarter.

After an impressive save by Caroline Pratt to start off the second quarter, the Continentals found the back of the net at 12:49 when Clarissa Hurley scored off a pass from Sarah Moore. Hamilton had a 3-2 lead, but not for long — at 12:18 Elsa Dean-Muncie '25 tied up the game 3-3, netting a goal with an assist by Franny Donohue

The Ephs pulled ahead at 11:10 when Franny Donohue scored off a pass from Lauren Morganlander '26, bringing Williams to a 4-3 lead. At 6:49, Claudia Russell found the back of the net, again unassisted, increasing the Ephs' lead to 5-3. Franny Donohue then pulled off a hat trick at 5:05 with an assist by Isabel Arvelo '23, giving the Ephs a 3-point lead, 6-3, going into the second half.

Casey Fiore went in goal for Hamilton at the start of the third quarter. At 10:52, Emma Toes scored off a pass from Aine Cleary, shrinking Williams' lead to 2. At 6:03, Meaghan Day scored assisted by Franny Donohue, putting the Ephs back up by 3, 7-4. 

The Continentals scored again at 3:35 when Sarah Creamer netted off an assist by Sarah Stonestreet, and Williams led 7-5. Sarah Creamer then slotted another one home with only 6 seconds left in the quarter and the EPh lead was now 1, 7-6.

Isabel Arvelo kicked off the fourth quarter with an unassisted goal at 12:55 and the Ephs now had an 8-6 lead. Hamilton's Meghan Lane scored unassisted at 8:55, to make it an 8-7 game. At 5:36, Aine Cleary took advantage of a free position shot and tied up the game at 8. Williams got back on top at 2:16 when Franny Donohue scored her fourth goal of the game, assisted by Lauren Morganlander, giving the Ephs a 9-8 lead and closing out the scoring. 



Hamilton goalie Maeve Luparello made 3 saves and allowed 6 goals and Casey Fiore made 5 saves and allowed 3 goals, while Williams goalie Caroline Pratt made 11 saves and allowed 8 goals on the day.

"Kudos to Hamilton," said Eph head coach Alice Lee. "They played a really athletic, competitive game. There were certain moments when certain people stepped up to the plate and made some really big plays that sparked the next one. Kudos to Christina Halloran ['24] tonight for the big interception that she had later in the game."

Next up for the Ephs is a conference matchup against rival Amherst College in Amherst, Mass., on Saturday at 1 p.m.
