Ephs' Offense Shines in 16-8 Victory Over MIT

Williamstown, MA – A rejuvenated Williams College (8-5) had a quick turnaround from their Saturday win over arch rival Amherst as they faced off against the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (10-4). Following a quiet first quarter, the Ephs would explode in the second and third quarters to put the game out of reach for MIT.

Riding high from the win at the weekend, Williams was determined to keep the ball rolling early. Cade Shuckman would open the scoring a few minutes into the game, establishing yet another 1-0 Ephs lead. MIT would be quick to respond, however, as they would score two goals in two minutes to take the lead. After a penalty for the Engineers late in the opening frame, the red hot Ephs' man-up unit would tally another goal as Finlay MacKnight would tie the game up at 2-2.

Williams would pick up where they left off in the first quarter, as Calvin Caputo would find Will Doran who put the Ephs back up 3-2. Caputo would then bury two of his own to extend the lead to 5-2 midway through the frame. Despite an MIT response, Williams would keep the energy flowing as Cade Shuckman registered his second of the game. The flood gates starting to open, Will Doran and Spencer Goodbar would score back-to-back to put the Ephs ahead at the half, 8-3.

For the third quarter in a row, the Ephs would open the scoring around the 10:45 mark, this time with long-stick Ian Di Pietro. Twenty seconds later, Finlay MacKnight would extend the lead to seven as the Ephs went up 10-3. Minutes after, Tucker Catlin would score from in tight to open his goal account for the season. MIT would pull one back, but Ryan Johnson would quickly answer with a missile into the corner to extend the lead to 12-4.

The teams would exchange goals to begin the final quarter, with MacKnight completing his hat trick and Bjorn Davidson drawing his first of the night. With a few minutes remaining, Adam Figler would score his third of the year to make the score 15-6. Shortly after, Ian Di Pietro would rip home his second of the game to put the Ephs up by ten. MIT would add two goals late, but the damage had been done as the Ephs came out on top, 16-8.

Eph head coach George McCormack spoke of the offense after the game saying, "I thought there were a lot of guys contributing and our ball movement really allowed for us to take advantage of our opportunities. We also did a really good job transitioning the ball from defense to offense tonight."

The Ephs will hit the road to face Wesleyan this Saturday at 1 PM.
