WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. - The Ephs first lead of the game provided by senior Elizabeth Scarcella in the third quarter changed the momentum of the game as the Williams College Ephs came from behind to win 5-2 against the Bryn Mawr Owls on Williamson Field.
The Owls struck first at the 8:23 mark. Eva Yacura secured a final touch to change the direction of the ball following an initial shot from Annick van Blerkom to put Bryn Mawr 1-0 up heading into the second quarter.Â
Awarded a penalty corner less than two minutes into the second quarter, senior Jacqui Sandor found space to get a shot off on goal, drawing the Ephs level. The Owls took the lead once again 20:35 into the game as Sophie Vagts secured a shot off a cross from Jasmine Peterson. The Owls led 2-1 at halftime.
The Ephs came out on the front foot in the second half as senior Molly Hellman placed a perfect cross into the circle, where first year Claire Colvin was able to get the ball past the goalkeeper and draw the Ephs level once again. The Ephs took a 3-2 lead 43:20 into the game as sophomore Kiki Higgins found Scarcella on top of the circle who launched a rocket into the top left corner.Â
The Ephs struck again early in the fourth quarter. Junior Linda Bibeau's long pass went through everyone, finding Meaghan Boehm at the edge of the circle who rushed inside and struck a clean shot, giving the Ephs a 4-2 lead with 13:20 remaining in the game. Colvin found the back of the net for the second time, providing the 5th and final goal of the day at the 59:10 mark.Â
On the day, the Ephs fired 29 shots with 14 on target. The Owls fired 12 shots with 5 on target.Â
Eph head coach Alix Barrale stated after the game: "A tale of two halves. We knew Bryn Mawr is a formidable opponent. They had a great game plan and executed it really well. They put us on our heels, making us panic and be frantic. We were off in the first half and I feel like we settled down and started executing our game plan in the second half. We concentrated on keeping the ball on offense and converting in the circle. It was hard for them to keep up with our style of play.Â
Up next for the Ephs are NESCAC rivals Colby College. The Ephs are set to take on the Mules on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 12 PM on Williamson Field.Â
