Game Recap

With the game tied 2-2 at the end of three periods, the Ephs and Mules headed into overtime. The Mules, taking the puck from their own defensive zone, skated quickly up the ice before one of their forwards fired a shot, saved off the pads of Erin Pye. Unfortunately for the Ephs, the Mules recovered the puck off the rebound and scored, ending the game at 3-2.

While the beginning of the game was characterized by the Ephs playing physically, and displaying offensive intensity, the Mules still found themselves taking the lead early, scoring at 12:58.

The second period began with the Ephs picking up a power play opportunity (1:38). They were able to get a number of shots off, but the power play ended with the score still at 1-0. The Mules got their own power play opportunity minutes after, but the Ephs' penalty kill unit excelled, killing the penalty (8:22). With under two minutes left to go in the period, the tide seemed to turn for the Ephs: Leah Rubinshteyn scored to tie the game at 1-1 (18:07), and 12 seconds later they went on the power play (18:19). Another penalty 10 seconds later gave the Ephs a 5-on-3 opportunity as the period ended (19:50).

Despite the man-up advantage, the Ephs were unable to score and put the Mules on the power play a little over two minutes into the period (2:35). The Mules converted on the power play, bringing their advantage up to 2-1 (4:35). Back-and-forth play ensued before sophomore forward Jaelyn Keiver scored the equalizer with under 5 minutes left in the contest. The game remained at 2-2 as the buzzer sounded, and the two teams headed to overtime.

Overtime ended as quickly as it started, with the Mules scoring 14 seconds in. After the game, Eph head coach Megan Gillis, stated, "We played a much better game today than yesterday overall. There is still a lot of improvements to make in our game, especially special teams so it will be good to have a long week, and then a game against Plattsburgh to prepare for the last stretch of league play."

Next up for the Ephs, they will face the Plattsburgh University Cardinals on the road in Plattsburgh, NY, with puck drop scheduled for January 27 at 3PM.
