Williamstown, MA – After an opening night loss, the Ephs attempted to push back and bring home two points against Bowdoin. After falling behind by one in the 2
nd period, the Ephs battled back late in the third period after pulling the goalie to make it even and push the game into overtime. Unfortunately, that became the only point for the Ephs this weekend as Bowdoin secured the win in the final minutes of the 4
th frame.
The Williams College Ephs (0-2-0) hosted the Bowdoin College Polar Bears back in Lansing Chapman Rink on Saturday, looking to split their weekend and walk away with two points. There wouldn't be any initial action on the board as the two teams battled back and forth throughout the first period. Action flowed up and down the ice as neither team was able to capitalize on any opportunities that came their way. The frame ended with the score still all even.
The second period began in much of the same fashion as the first, with neither team seeming to gain the edge on the other. That was until a rush by Bowdoin saw a tough look into the slot where they took advantage of and put the first goal in. The Ephs were determined from the very next shift and refused to let the momentum get too far in the direction of the Polar Bears. Nothing happened for the remainder of the frame as the Ephs would walk out down 1-0.
With a lot of determination up and down the bench, the Ephs were all pulling in the same direction to try and even the score. That effort came at the very end of the period after a dramatic effort from
Owen Stadheim, to maintain possession of the puck in the zone, with the goalie pulled, he found
Jake McManus for his very first collegiate goal with only 1:45 left in the 3
rd.
With one point secured the Ephs wanted more, and with the Polar Bears taking a tripping penalty after a great effort from
David Vieten, the Ephs were in great position to capitalize. That changed however after a difficult bounce saw the Polar Bears get a lucky bounce that found its way into the back of the Ephs net.
Eph head coach
Bill Kangas Kangas had this to say after the game, "After playing ourselves for the last 4 weeks it's been good, but the teams we play this weekend give us something to work on going into the next week… I am very confident in the resilience of this group and am looking forward to Monday to work towards playing Tufts and Conn next weekend."
