Ephs Lose Road Game at Hamilton

Clinton, NY – The Williams College Ephs traveled to New York State tonight to play against Hamilton College in their Citrus Bowl. Despite a lot of valiance, and a tremendous effort from Brady Welsch in his first game back this season after suffering a lower-body injury in preseason, the Ephs would fall 5-1.

The Williams College Ephs (3-4-0) came out strong, pushing back against the heavy offense of the Hamilton College Colonials (5-2-0). Cal Sandquist was a standout as usual, shutting down everything that got thrown his way. With continuous pressure on the Hamilton defense, the Ephs were pushing hard as time expired. It was unclear which side had the momentum as the final minutes of the first period closed with the score still 0-0.

It was a difficult 2nd period as the Ephs struggled to find any offense. Despite hard forechecking from Mel Mortarelli the Ephs seemed to be stuck with the puck not ending up in the back of the net. Hamilton would find 2 goals in this frame. Despite this, the Ephs still kept pushing with no quit seen anywhere up and down the bench.

It was also a difficult third period, with the Ephs working as hard as they could to try and bring this game back. After a very impressive night, Ziv Deener-Chodirker would find the first and only goal for the Ephs tonight. Despite this, Cal Sanquist was a bright spot for the Williams College Ephs, shutting down 45 out of the 49 shots seen on the night. The Ephs would fall 5-1 in this one.

Eph head coach Kangas had this to say after the game, "Hamilton played very well and challenged us in all 3 zones. Cal was strong again in goal, but we were unable to generate much offensively tonight. Looking forward to Amherst tomorrow we will briefly reflect on this game, then quickly refocus our energy on tomorrow's game at Amherst."
