Williams Secures Pivotal 8-6 Victory Over #13 Trinity

. Williamstown, MA - The Williams Ephs (4-1) hosted the Trinity Bantams at Farley-Lamb Field for their fifth game of the season. Behind goals from Claudia Russell and Franny Donohue, Williams clinched a pivotal 8-6 victory over the #13 Bantams.

The Ephs once again displayed their trademark strong start, seizing an early lead in the game. A self-draw control by Juliet Kilborn set up Claudia Russell for a lightning-fast goal within the first 10 seconds. Trinity swiftly responded with two goals from high-side dodges in the first quarter.

Despite Trinity's rallying efforts, the Ephs showcased unyielding defense with Paige Nelson forcing turnovers and a crucial interception by Goalie Anj Raman. Williams capitalized on these turnovers, netting three quick goals before the first quarter ended.

Maintaining their offensive prowess and stifling defense, the Ephs secured crucial draw controls leading to team goals. Christina Halloran's rocket shot to the top right corner, assisted by Abby Godwin, further fueled Williams' offensive momentum. Meanwhile, resilient one-on-one defensive efforts propelled Williams to a commanding 6-3 lead at halftime.

However, out of the half Trinity mounted a comeback, capitalizing on defensive stops and strong drives to narrow the gap to 7-6. The sudden shift in momentum prompted heightened defensive pressure from Trinity heading into the fourth quarter.

Williams responded with disciplined ball control by midfielder Gracie Collier to maintain the lead.  Efforts from Eph attackers to draw fouls and reset the shot clock ultimately allowed Williams to possess for the few minutes remaining. In the closing moments, Franny Donohue sniped a free possession goal to seal the 8-6 victory.

After the game, Eph captain Abby Godwin stated, "I thought tonight was a great, gritty team win. Everyone did their part and worked so hard to find a way and I am excited to carry this energy and momentum over to our California games."

The victory over #13 Trinity provides a solid foundation for the Ephs' future success as they get ready to take on rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in California on Monday at 7 PM PDT.
