Williamstown, MA – After being on the road for their past three games, the #19 Williams College Ephs (Inside Lacrosse) (4-3, 2-1) returned to Farley-Lamb Field to host the Connecticut College Camels (2-4,0-4). The Ephs took full advantage playing at home today netting 13 unanswered goals in the first half. The second half was a great display that the Ephs can maintain their composure in any situation as they secured a conference win.
The Ephs came out of the gate fast. With a faceoff win coming from
Ian Kim,
Will Doran would step out from behind the cage to find the back of the net just thirty seconds into the game. The hot start would continue, as
Nick Bates,
Seamus Regan, and
Noah Dewbrey would each score, putting Williams quickly up 4-0. It was then the turn of the defense to start coming up with some momentum builders for the Ephs. That defensive responsibility soon translated into offense, leaving the Ephs walking out of the first quarter up by a score of 6-1.
The momentum stayed with the Ephs, who wasted no time extending their lead. A goal from
Ryan Johnson, the long stick
Aidan Housenbold, and
Cade Schuckman, would each come in the opening minutes. At the eleven-minute mark,
Ryan Johnson would record his third goal of the game earning himself the hat-trick witha pass from
Pearse Glavin.
Pearse Glavin, after earning his fourth assist, would earn himself not one, but two back-to-back goals putting the Ephs up 13-1. With a goal from the FO
Ian Kim, and goals from
Calvin Caputo,
Sam Cragin, a fourth from
Ryan Johnson, and
Pearse Glavin earning his hat-trick, the Ephs walked away from the first half of this game in full control with a lead of 18-2.
The second half started with
Matt Wetmore coming up with a couple huge saves. That effort helped the Ephs resist the refreshed pressure from the Camels. It was a great display of maturity for the Ephs. Not jeopardizing their game by chasing goals, Williams would lock down their defensive zone, looked strong in the mid-field, and made great plays in the offensive zone to keep things going in the right direction. The quarter remained relatively quiet, with the only Eph goal coming from
Ryan Johnson who recorded his fifth of the day.
The first half brought the Ephs all they would need for this one. Goals would still pour in from Gavin Timone and
Ryan Nagle as time wound down. The Ephs showed great poise up and down the field. From big goals coming off the stick of
Ryan Johnson, unbelievable looks from
Pearse Glavin, or beautiful saves by
Matt Wetmore, the Ephs showed a united front today in psoiting a 24-8 win.
Since their tough loss at R.P.I., the Ephs have been red hot. Eph head coach George McCormack had this to say to after the game, "We learned a lot from our RPI game and put those lessons into our practice sessions and we have been able to get a little bit better every time we have practiced and played recently. Going forward we still have a lot of room for growth and we will need to continue to get a little better every time we step on the field."
The Ephs will return to action this coming Wednesday evening at 6 PM on Farley-Lamb Field, looking to keep this momentum going against Tufts University.
