Davenport, Fl - Williams had trouble keeping up with Colby College in a 13-2 loss on Friday.
The Mules got on the board in the first inning after a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded brought in a run, then added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after a single, a sacrifice fly, and another free pass by Ephs pitching.Â
Freshman Jake Jeffries started on the mound for Williams. He surrendered eight hits and eight runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking four. He was replaced by Michael Amendola  Sasha Palma, the number nine hitter for Williams College Ephs, led the way with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 3-for-3 on the day, including a triple to deep right field in the seventh inning. Palma and freshman shortstop Owen McHugh also turned one double play in the game. Henry Juan added one hit on a sharp single to left center field, and Ryan Nakajima also singled, bringing the Ephs hit total to five. Â
The Mules amassed 10 hits in the game. Overall, the team also showed patience at the plate, tallying 12 walks for the game. Colby didn't commit a single error in the field.Â
Next up for Williams is a game against Castleton on Wednesday, as they return home after a two-week spring break training trip.
