Union Defeats Williams 15-5

Schenectady, NY- The Williams College baseball team was defeated by Union College today by a final score of 15-5

The gamebegan with both teams showing strong defensive skills, leading to a scoreless first inning. However, the momentum began to shift in the second inning when Williams took the lead with a run scored by Brendan Stannard. 

Owen Mchugh added another run for Williams to start the third inning. The turning point came in the bottom of the third, when Union unleashed their offensive prowess, turning the tables with three runs to take a lead. The highlight was a double by Kobe Mentzer, driving in Thomas Parisi and Liam McIlroy, showcasing Union's ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities. 

Union's relentless assault continued into the fourth inning when Liam McIlroy's set the tone with a home run. Dan Sheeran and Sam Strazza also contributed significantly, with Strazza's single driving in two more runs and Sheeran's single driving in another two, amplifying Union's lead to 5-2

The fifth inning saw Williams start to make a comeback after Mchugh added another run followed by scores from Stannard, and Burrell. Williams brought the game to 8-5 before Union's batters took the field. 

Union's most significant offensive explosion came in the bottom of the fifth, adding seven runs to their tally and effectively sealing the victory. Parisi's double was a key moment, bringing in three more runs, with Strazza's single adding two more to Union's ever-growing lead. Despite Williams' attempts to claw back into the game, Union's defense stood firm, showcasing their prowess on the field and on the mound.

Williams head baseball coach Bill Barralle on today's game said, "We've just got to learn from today, and get ready to travel up to Middlebury for an in-conference game which always brings the best out of both teams."

The Ephs travel to Middlebury, Vt Friday for the first game of their in-conference series against Middlebury. The first pitch will be thrown at 4pm.
