Williams Closes Out Middlebury Series With 6-4 Win

Middlebury, VT -  The Williams College Baseball team closed out their series against Middlebury with a 6-4 win.

The scoring kicked off in the fourth inning when Williams broke the ice after Anthony Lods sent Marcus Burrell home. After breaking the ice, Williams found themselves quickly trailing as Middlebury responded with vigor. The rally started with Baker Angstman at the plate, who delivered a clutch single through the right side, driving in Mitchell Schroeder for the first run of the inning. Angstman then advanced to second on the throw, putting runners in scoring position. Andrew Ashley moved up to second on a pitcher's throwing error, further setting the stage. Ashley followed with a single to right center, allowing Schroeder to advance and keeping the momentum. Gus Parker then capitalized on the setup with a key hit, singling to left field and driving in both Zip Malley and Angstman, pushing Middlebury ahead by three runs.

The sixth inning changed the game for Williams. The comeback started with  Kedar Veeraswamy's critical single down the right field line that brought Ryan Nakajima home, narrowing the gap. Anthony Lods then grounded out but not without sending Marcus Burrell across the plate to make it a one-run game, 4-3.

Owen McHugh delivered a standout performance for Williams, entering the game in the bottom of the sixth and completely shutting down Middlebury hitters. He finished the game without allowing a single hit and had a pair of strikeouts.

Williams took the lead in the seventh following Nakajima's single to right field that sent Brendan Stannard home, tying the game. Shortly after, Mike Giove's sacrifice fly brought Henry Juan in from third, pushing Williams ahead for the first time since the fourth inning.

Williams solidified their lead in the eighth inning with McHugh's key hit that drove Andrew Rocha home, ensuring a two-run cushion to carry them to the game's conclusion.
