Williamstown, MA- The Williams College Baseball team was defeated in both games of a doubleheader against Hamilton College.
In the first game of the day, Hamilton scored in the third inning when Greg Kopp executed a sacrifice fly to left field, bringing Charlie O'Brien home, and putting Hamilton on the board first. This initial run set the tone for Hamilton, who continued to capitalize on their opportunities.
By the sixth inning, Hamilton's offense had gained considerable momentum. Kopp again came through with a pivotal double down the right-field line, driving in O'Brien and Alfonso Rada to extend Hamilton's lead to 3-0. Williams finally responded with Henry Juan singling to left center, scoring Owen McHugh and narrowing the gap to 3-1.
However, Hamilton was not done yet. In a significant play later in the sixth, Jackson Johns doubled down the right-field line, bringing in Jack Griffin and Shane Dux, while Carter Chambers advanced to third. This double widened Hamilton's lead further to 5-1.
The scoring continued into the later innings, where Rada flew out to right field for a sacrifice fly that allowed Johns to tag up and advance to third while Chambers scored, pushing Hamilton's lead to a solid 6-1.
In the second game, the scoring opened with Shane Dux driving Jackson Sattinger home with a single to right center, putting Hamilton ahead early. This momentum was soon amplified by Charlie O'Brien, who knocked a single into center field to bring Jackson Johns across the plate, doubling Hamilton's lead to 2-0.
Hamilton continued to apply pressure in the second inning. A critical wild pitch allowed O'Brien to score, while Rada and Kopp advanced on the bases, escalating the score to 3-0. Dux then walked with the bases loaded, bringing Rada home and pushing the score to 4-0. Owen McHugh of Williams managed to pull one back with a single that drove Ryan Nakajima home, but Sasha Palma was tagged out at third, capping the inning at 4-1.
Hamilton's bats remained hot into the fourth. Sattinger's single to left field brought Kopp home, extending their lead to 5-2. Shortly afterward, an error by Williams' shortstop allowed Kaufman to score off Dux's reach, further widening the gap to 6-2.
The seventh inning saw Herman's bat come alive with a single that brought J. Griffin sprinting home to score an unearned run. This boosted Hamilton's lead to a comfortable 7-2 margin.
Continuing their dominant performance, Hamilton saw Johns fly out to center field in a sacrifice fly that allowed Dux to tag up and score, setting the scoreboard at 8-2 in favor of Hamilton.
Although Williams is eliminated from the playoffs, they look to add a win to the record on Tuesday at Bard College.
