Ephs Win 12-7 on Senior Day

Williamstown, MA -- A roaring crowd at Farley-Lamb Field gathered to celebrate the Williams College Ephs' (7-6, 5-4) seniors as they hosted the Colby College Mules (5-8, 1-8). The Williams' seniors had a spectacular showing as the offense erupted for seven goals in the first quarter which enabled the Ephs to defeat Colby by a score of 12-7. Seniors Calvin Caputo and Pearse Glavin led with four goals apiece.

The two teams began the game almost dead-even, splitting much of the momentum and chances. Williams would strike first off the stick of Calvin Caputo with Will Doran drawing the assist. Colby immediately responded on the ensuing possession to level the game. Caputo then buried his second in as many minutes to retake a one-goal lead over the Mules. It would not last long, however, as Colby tied the game a minute later. The Ephs quickly pulled ahead once again when Pearse Glavin scored at the ten-minute mark. Tucker Catlin doubled the advantage shortly after, but Colby erased narrowed the 2-goal lead twenty seconds later to make it 4-3 Ephs. Williams finished the quarter with the field shifted in their favor. Gavin Timoney made it 5-3 Ephs at six minutes before Calvin Caputo completed his hat trick minutes later. Finlay Macknight then beat the buzzer with his goal at the ten second mark extending the Williams lead to 7-3.

Colby stifled the run in the opening minutes of the second quarter and eventually scored themselves to cut their deficit to three goals. Williams answered a minute later as Calvin Caputo hit Harrison Cross for the goal to make it 8-4. Pearse Glavin quickly made it nine Ephs goals with a strong finish from the wing. At the three minute mark, Colby added their fifth, but it would not slow the Ephs' roll. Pearse Glavin fired a shot from long range which bounced over the stick of the goalie to complete the senior's hat trick and extend the lead to 10-5 at the half.

Colby dominated the beginning of the third quarter, scoring twice in a minute to bring the score back to 10-7. The Ephs struggled to find the offensive prowess they had in the opening half hour. Five saves would be required from the Mules' netminder, but it would take until the final fifteen seconds of the quarter for Williams to find the back of the net. The two hat trick heroes combined for the Ephs as Caputo fed Glavin to make it 11-7 Williams heading into the final quarter.

Williams dominated most of the final fifteen minutes, but the Colby netminder continued to shut the door. Defensively, Williams looked calm and composed while shutting down any major chances for Colby to get back into the game. Despite their being only one goal in the entire quarter, the Ephs registered 12 shots and 57 for the game. The solo goal of the frame came in the dying minutes when Calvin Caputo capped off Senior Day with his fourth goal to seal the 12-7 victory.

After the game, Eph head coach George McCormack spoke about the victory and the day saying, "All of our seniors contributed today and Cal and Pearse really stepped up on the offensive end."

The Ephs will head to Middlebury College on Wednesday at 5pm to complete the regular season.
