Williams Triumphs Over Bowdoin 5-2, Securing Their 5th NESCAC Victory

BRUNSWICK, ME The Ephs (8-0, 5-0) continued their unbeaten streak with a 5-2 win over Bowdoin College (3-5, 1-4) this Sunday. Dominating both possession and opportunities, Williams out shot Bowdoin 10-5 and earned 17 penalty corners compared to Bowdoin's 11.

The game opened with strong offensive pressure from Williams, resulting in a 2-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. At 7:51, Claire Colvin scored off an assist by Laura Ryan for Williams' first goal. A few minutes later, Kiki Higgins netted the second goal at 13:58, assisted by Meaghan Boehm.

In the second quarter, Williams continued pressing Bowdoin's defense, with several shots by Kiki Higgins and penalty corners from Haley McAuslin and Kaela Smith, but Bowdoin's goalkeeper, Lauren O'Donald, made key saves to keep the score unchanged. Both teams went scoreless this quarter, ending the first half with Williams still in the lead with a 2-0 score.

In the third quarter, Bowdoin fought back, with Emily Ferguson scoring at 34:38 off an assist from Maya Malenfant, narrowing the score to 2-1. Ferguson's goal was the first the Ephs allowed this season in 457 minutes and 38 seconds of play.Williams responded with continued offensive pressure, but the quarter ended with the score unchanged at 2-1.

The fourth quarter saw Williams regain control. Meaghan Boehm scored at 46:24, assisted by Kiki Higgins, pushing the lead to 3-1. Bowdoin answered quickly, with Caroline Higgins scoring at 48:32, assisted by Clara Noyes, bringing the score to 3-2. However, Williams secured the win with two more goals: a second from Kiki Higgins at 53:13, assisted by Claire Colvin, and a penalty goal by Pilar Torres at 54:19, sealing the 5-2 victory.

Eph head coach Alix Barrale said, "We played a strong first half scoring 2 good goals. Bowdoin came out strong in the third quarter and had us on our heels. We regrouped and came out focused and intense in the 4th quarter."


The Ephs will play their 6th NESCAC match next Saturday, October 5th, against Bates College at Williamson Field.
