BRUNSWICK, ME - Another
Tori Huang goal off of a cross lifted Williams over Bowdoin in a great NESCAC matchup. A goal from
Ava Simunovic was ruled offsides, but it did not matter in the end as the Ephs' defense was resolute.
Â
Margaret Huelin was called into action in the 13th minute, jumping high to grab a long shot from a Bowdoin freekick. Three minutes later, it was the Polar Bears' keeper who was involved, pulling off a great fingertip save to deny
Brianna Wright, who had run in through on goal.
Â
In the 17th minute, the Ephs took the lead.
Piper Dupies played a perfect corner that looped over a jumble at the six-yard box and towards the back post.
Tori Huang did well to get separation from her marker and headed the ball in.
Â
No more clear chances for either side materialized in the first half.
Â
In the second minute of the second half, the Ephs thought they were 2-0 up. A knee-height free kick delivery from Abbiati found Simunovic, who put her laces through the ball on the volley. Although her shot went past the goalkeeper and the Ephs started to celebrate, only to be disappointed by the offsides flag.
Â
In the 56th minute,
Meredith Tutun did well to head out a back post cross on the defensive end. That was just part of a strong defensive performance from the entire back line.
Â
In the last two minutes, the Ephs had two good chances to score again. In the 88th minute, a Bowdoin defender made a stunning slide tackle to deny Abbiati a 1v1 with the goalkeeper.
Â
With two seconds on the clock,
Brianna Wright slammed a shot from close range off of the post after breaking free from her defender. The Ephs have built a great winning formula lately, winning multiple games on the bounce. It was another clean sheet too, showing just how disciplined the Ephs are on defense.
Â
After the game Eph head coachÂ
Sarah Raymond said: "Very happy with how we came out today after making adjustments from yesterday. We played to our strengths and kept our offensive shape which helped us keep the ball in much better ways. Once again our goalkeeping and defense played great to preserve another shut out. We created some good looks at goal today which was good to see. Overall a great weekend on the road which keeps us well in the mix in the NESCAC standings."
Â
The Ephs are back in action again next weekend, playing Bates at home.
