Williamstown, MA – Williams struggled today as they looked to secure two victories this weekend. Despite solid effort up and down the bench, the result went opposite the way they would have wanted. The final score of 6 – 2 did not accurately represent the flow of the game, and the Ephs will look to take away the positives as they move into practice and preparation for the out of conference games to come.
The Williams College Ephs (4-7-1) took to the ice for the second time this weekend at Lansing Chapman Rink this time against the #12 Trinity College Bantams (8-3-1). Setting the pace was
Owen Stadheim who has been a pillar for Williams this year. His leadership on and off the ice has been a constant source of dependence for the Ephs this year. The Ephs pushed back against constant pressure from the Bantams, fighting for control in all three zones. With penalties going against each team, Williams would look to bounce back in the second as they left the first frame trailing by 2.
With plenty of game yet to play, Williams came out for the second hungry. After killing off a series of penalties they began clawing back against the deficit that was in front of them.
Rowan Heithoff began the scoring for the Ephs. After a great effort from
Grant Fuchsen to possess the puck in the offensive zone for the Ephs,
Owen Stadheim would find the freshman for Rowan's second goal on the weekend. This was it for the Ephs in the second, but the first goal is always the hardest and they would look to continue in that form walking away down 3-1.
With a resounding effort from Cal Sanquist and the entire Williams bench, the Ephs would fight this one to the end. Nick Rashkovsky found his second goal of the season off a pass from the freshman
Jake McManus. There would be continuous efforts all over the ice from the entire Ephs roster. Eph head coach Bill Kangas always pushes his players to never back down, regardless of the score. Unfortunately, there would only be one goal for the Ephs tonight in the third period. They walked away from this battle against the Bantams losing by a score of 6-2.
