AMHERST, MA—The Ephwomen are back in competition in the new year at Pratt Pool versus the long term rivals Amherst Mammoths. This is their last away dual meet of the season and came away with a win, extending their dual meet streak to 141 straight wins.
The meet kicked off with the 200 medley relay. The A relay of
Sophia Verkleeren (26.47),
Charlotte Wishnack (29.54),
Clare McDermott (26.17), and
Zora Vujovic (24.30) surged to the win by 3 seconds in a time of 1:46.48 from the B relay of
Alden White (28.85),
Bernadette Ramoy (29.86),
Irene Yang (26.26), and
Emma Dimter (24.80) (1:49.17). The C relay placed fifth in a 1:51.77 (
Aly Eward,
Issy Hiller,
Amy Zhao,
Caterina Li).
The first individual event was the 1000 freestyle swam by
Lily Codd,
Gracie O'Connell, and
Kyla Kelley. The distance trio placed 1-2-3 respectively sweeping the Mammoths. Codd kept a consistent lead with O'Connell and Kelley right behind her and finished in a 10:34.89, 10:52.77, and 10:53.33 respectively.
In the 200 freestyle,
Carter Roebuck dominated with a strong lead for the entirety of the race, winning the event in a 1:54.71. First year
Isabel Espinosa was not too far behind, placing second in a 1:56.15.
Azmera Gebre placed fifth in a 1:59.50.
Backstrokers
Sophia Verkleeren,
Irene Yang, and
Alden White dominated the 100 backstroke placing 1-2-3 in the event. Verkleeren won the event by over 3 seconds in a 55.92. Yang and White swam a 59.19 and 59.68 respectively.
The breaststrokers of
Charlotte Wishnack,
Bernadette Ramoy, and
Issy Hiller took on the 100 breaststroke. Wishnack had a tight race against Amherst swimmer Allison Lacroix but out touched her at the finish, winning the event in a 1:05.45. Ramoy was third in a 1:06.99 and Hiller placed sixth in a 1:09.75.
The 200 butterfly was next with
Ruby Groves leading the pack touching second in a 2:07.85.
Abi Greenberg and
Gracie O'Connell also had strong swims in a 2:10.66 and 2:13.53 placing 3rd and 4th respectively.
The shortest event of the meet was the 50 freestyle.
Annika Chu blasted to second place in front of
Zora Vujovic and
Emma Dimter, in a 24.53. Vujovic and Dimter placed 3rd and 4th respectively in a 24.63 and 25.00.
The ephwomen divers flipped their way through the 1 meter competition during the swimming break.
Adelaide Herman led the pack with a final score of 263.24 placing second.
Ashley Loh placed 4th with a 234.45 and
Lucy Savarese placed 6th in a 217.04.
After the diving break was the 100 freestyle. Freestyler
Carter Roebuck dominated her event once again with the event win in a 53.03.
Isabel Espinosa and
Zora Vujovic weren't far behind as they finished 4th and 5th respectively in a 53.72 and 53.87 respectively.
The backstrokers were back at it in the 200 backstroke.
Sophia Verkleeren dominated the field by 9 seconds, winning the event in a 2:00.80 setting a new pool record.
Alden White and
Aly Eward executed the 1-2-3 finish in times of 2:09.22 and 2:09.81 respectively.
The breaststrokers were also back at it in the 200 breaststroke.
Charlotte Wishnack dominated the field, winning the event by 5 seconds in a 2:22.19.
Bernadette Ramoy touched second in a 2:27.36.
Issy Hiller finished 5th in a 2:30.56.
In the 500 freestyle,
Lily Codd led the Ephwomen to a 2-3-5 finish with a time of 5:09.43.
Carter Roebuck had a stellar swim with a time of 5:10.28, a season best. First-year
Kyla Kelley finished in a 5:19.84.
In the 100 butterfly,
Irene Yang at the fastest split in the field and ended up finishing second in a 58.49.
Clare McDermott finished third in a 59.59.
Abi Greenberg finished 4th in a 1:00.02.
The divers were back in the pool for the 3 meter competition. The Ephwomen divers of
Adelaide Herman,
Lucy Savarese, and
Ashley Loh finished 3-4-5 with 259.27, 220.67, and 211.79 points respectively.
In the final individual event of the meet,
Sophia Verkleeren,
Irene Yang, and
Ruby Groves took on the 200 individual Medley. Verkleeren took her third title of the meet in a 2:04.47 which matches her pool record from two years ago. Yang finished second in a 2:09.88. Groves finished 4th in a 2:12.41.
The meet culminated with the 400 freestyle relay. The A relay of
Carter Roebuck (54.06),
Bernadette Ramoy (52.95),
Isabel Espinosa (53.47), and
Zora Vujovic (24.74) had a tight race against the Amherst A relay. They finished in a time of 3:34.22 touching second. The B relay of
Abi Greenberg (56.31),
Emma Dimter (55.51),
Annika Chu (53.07), and
Alden White (55.06) (3:39.95) touched third.. The C relay placed fourth in a 3:41.66 (
Caterina Li,
Aly Eward,
Clare McDermott,
Amy Zhao).
The Ephwomen will return to competition next Friday (1/17/25) against MIT/NYU and next Saturday (1/18/25) against Connecticut College at home in the Samuelson-Muir Pool.
