WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—The Ephwomen hosted their first home meet of the season at the Samuelson-Muir pool versus No. 3 NYU and No. 4 MIT. They showed perseverance and grit throughout the whole meet but ultimately fell to the Violets and Engineers, snapping their 144 meet win streak that spanned 17 years.
The meet kicked off with the 400 medley relay. The A relay of
Sophia Verkleeren (55.97),
Charlotte Wishnack (1:04.14),
Irene Yang (58.22), and
Carter Roebuck (52.22) had a tight race with the MIT and NYU A relays. They ended up touching second behind the MIT A relay by three seconds. The B relay of
Clementine Robins (58.03),
Bernadette Ramoy (1:05.36),
Clare McDermott (58.20), and
Zora Vujovic (53.95) touched fourth in the field. The C relay placed sixth in a 4:02.23 (
Alden White,
Brielle Gold,
Liz Ramoy,
Emma Dimter) and the D relay placed tenth in a 4:07.05 (
Aly Eward,
Charlotte Brawer,
Amy Zhao,
Azmera Gebre).
The first individual event was the 1650 freestyle swam by
Lily Codd and
Gracie O'Connell. The distance duo placed third and tenth respectively. Codd kept consistent pace with O'Connell not too far behind her and finished in a 17:35.74 and 18:09.49 respectively.
In the 200 freestyle,
Carter Roebuck had a close race with Kaley McIntyre of NYU and Ella Roberson of MIT for the entirety of the race. She ended up touching third behind both in a 1:53.85. First-year
Isabel Espinosa was not too far behind, placing seventh in a 1:56.05.
Azmera Gebre placed tenth in a 1:58.69.
Backstrokers
Sophia Verkleeren,
Irene Yang,
Alden White, and
Aly Eward had a strong showing in the 100 backstroke. Verkleeren won the event by over .5 seconds in a 55.27 in front of the 2024 National Champion Kate Augustyn from MIT. Yang, White, and Eward swam a 58.18, 59.60 and 1:01.12 respectively.
The breaststrokers of
Charlotte Wishnack,
Bernadette Ramoy,
Issy Hiller,
Rika Yahashiri, and
Charlotte Brawer all took on the 1000 breaststroke. Wishnack had a tight race against MIT's Sarah Bernard and touched second in a 1:05.10. Ramoy was fourth in a 1:06.44. Yahashiri, Hiller, and Brawer placed 8th, 10th, and 13th respectively.
The 200 butterfly was next with
Abi Greenberg and
Ruby Groves finishing sixth and seventh respectively in a 2:09.68 and 2:10.09.
Gracie O'Connell also had strong swims in a 2:14.40 placing 11th.
The shortest event of the meet was the 50 freestyle.
Emma Dimter and
Zora Vujovic blasted to sixth and seventh place in a 24.77 and 24.80.
Amy Zhao placed 11th in a 25.53 and
Azmera Gebre came in 14th in a 25.91.
The Ephwomen divers dove their way through the 1 meter competition during the first half of the meet.
Adelaide Herman led the pack with a final score of 283.25 placing fourth.
Ashley Loh placed 6th with a 270.40.
After the first break was the 100 freestyle. Freestyler
Carter Roebuck faced the same competitors once again from the 200 freestyle. She finished third in a 53.07.
Zora Vujovic wasn't far behind as she finished 6th in a 53.76.
Emma Dimter and
Rika Yahashiri placed 13th and 14th respectively.
The backstrokers were back at it in the 200 backstroke.
Sophia Verkleeren dominated the field winning the event in a 2:00.07, a season-best.
Irene Yang had a strong third place finish in a 2:06.62.
Alden White and
Aly Eward finished 8th and 11th respectively.
The breaststrokers were also back at it in the 200 breaststroke.
Charlotte Wishnack had a tight race once again versus Sarah Bernard of MIT and finished 2nd in a 2:22.74.
Bernadette Ramoy touched sixth in a 2:26.00.
Issy Hiller and
Charlotte Brawer finished 10th and 12th respectively.
In the 500 freestyle,
Carter Roebuck competed in her last freestyle event of the meet and finished fourth in a 5:09.81, dropping from her race from last weekend at Amherst.
Isabel Espinosa finished 8th in a 5:14.25 and
Lily Codd finished 9th in a 5:15.98.
In the 100 butterfly,
Clare McDermott finished in a season best 59.01 finishing 6th in the field.
Amy Zhao,
Liz Ramoy, and
Brielle Gold finished 11th, 13th, and 14th respectively.
The divers were back in the pool for the 3 meter competition during the second half of the meet. Adelaide stunned the crowd with her clean dives, especially her 305C and placed second with 304 total points.
Ashley Loh placed fifth with 263.60 points.
In the final individual event of the meet,
Sophia Verkleeren,
Lily Codd,
Irene Yang, and
Ruby Groves took on the 400 individual Medley. Verkleeren took her third title of the meet in a 4:22.34, which was 6 seconds faster than second place. Codd finished third in a 4:34.48. Yang finished sixth in a 4:36.70 and Groves finished 13th in a 4:43.53.
The meet ended with the 200 freestyle relay. The A relay of
Bernadette Ramoy (24.55),
Emma Dimter (24.44),
Clare McDermott (24.49), and
Zora Vujovic (24.20) finished third behind the MIT and NYU A relays. The B relay of
Charlotte Wishnack (25.48),

Isabel Espinosa (24.46) touched seventh in the competition. The C relay placed tenth in a 1:42.34 (

The Ephwomen will return to competition tomorrow (1/18/25) against Connecticut College at home in the Samuelson-Muir Pool at 1:00 PM. This will also be the senior meet.
