PORTLAND, Maine - First-years Lucy Carrel and Olivia Bevilaqua combined to score all three Williams goals in a 4-1 victory over the University of Southern Maine on Sunday afternoon.
Carrel earned a hat trick, the first of her Williams career, as she now has a team-leading six goals on the season. With the win, the Ephs improve to 6-1-3 on the season.
"It was a great team performance today and the team brought great energy to bounce back from a disappointing tie yesterday," said Head Coach Sarah Raymond. "The first group went after it from the get go and put us up which gave us the confidence we had been missing. Every lineup we put on today did well in their minutes and kept us on the front foot. We created some great opportunities and Lucy was outstanding with her hat trick!"
The Ephs took control of the game early and got the first goal 11 minutes in, as Carrel finished off an assist from Ansley Burns, her second of the season. Bevilaqua got her second goal of the season with just over 10 minutes remaining in the half, with the first assist of senior Brianna Wright on the play.
Carrel put the game beyond doubt less than 90 seconds into the second half, scoring unassisted to give the Ephs a 3-0 lead, and closed the scoring in the 78th minute off of Isabel Konijnenberg's first assist of the year.
Senior goalkeeper Margaret Huelin made two saves in the win, and was unlucky in giving up a late penalty kick with five minutes left as the only goal she allowed across two games this weekend.
Williams has another busy weekend ahead, hosting Wesleyan University next Saturday, October 11 at 1pm, and hosting Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Sunday for a 12:30pm kickoff.
