WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Williams College men's basketball team extended its record to 3-0 to start the 2025-26 season with a 79-72 victory over SUNY Oneonta on Wednesday night in Chandler Gymnasium.
The game was tight until the last few minutes, when the Ephs were able to pull away and stay ahead to get the non-conference win.
Williams had four players in double-digits in scoring, led by Hudson Hansen with 18, Aidan Yates with 14, Jackson Rein with 13, and Dylan Shepherd with 12. Rein was big on the boards as well, collecting 12 rebounds.
It was a back-and-forth affair for the majority of the game, seeing 24 lead changes as the two teams battled, trading points throughout. Oneonta had taken a five point lead with 2:45 left in the first half, but the Ephs hit five points from the line in the closing minutes to tie the game going into the break.
The second half unfolded much like the first, with the teams trading shots and neither finding a way to hold an advantage. Each team had a lead of five at one point in the second half, with the Ephs leading 44-39 with 13:29 left, and the Red Dragons later holding a 61-56 advantage with 7:08 remaining.
The Ephs fought back to tie the game and with 4:08 left, Hudson Hansen hit a free throw to give Williams a lead they would not give back. The Ephs made high-percentage shots and stayed calm from the free throw line to ensure Oneonta would not get back into the game.
Williams will travel this weekend to face Emmanuel College on the road in Boston this Saturday, and return home next Tuesday to host the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at 7 p.m.
