WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Williams College women's basketball team defeated Plattsburgh State, 74-47, in the Championship game of the Morin Memorial Tournament this afternoon. With the victory, the Ephs improve to 2-2 on the season.
The Ephs set the tone immediately, opening the game on a 12–0 run, and holding a 20-7 lead after the first quarter. Plattsburgh battled back in the second period with 13 points, but Williams answered with 25 points to take a commanding 45-20 advantage heading into halftime.
Williams maintained full control after the break, outscoring the Cardinals 29–27 over the final two quarters to seal the 27-point victory.
The Ephs posted strong shooting numbers across the board, finishing 42.3% from the field, 40% from three, and 83.3% at the line.
Junior,
Kathleen Smith led the Ephs as she recorded her first double-double of the season, knocking down 19 points and picking up 19 boards.
Micah Walton and
Amaya Chase-Luthra both put up double figures, Walton with 13 and Chase-Luthra with 10.
Defensively, Williams forced 19 turnovers and dominated the glass with a 44–28 rebounding advantage.
Additionally, Smith was named Most Outstanding Player of the Morin Memorial Tournament, after putting up 31 points and 28 rebounds on the weekend.
The Ephs return to Chandler Gymnasium on Tuesday, November 25, to host Springfield College at 5 p.m.
