WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - In pursuit of defending the 2025 NESCAC title, the Eph Women came out swinging today against Tufts, Trinity and WPI. It was a full team effort from start to finish, with numerous outstanding performances. Today showcased the depth of the Williams Women's Swim & Dive team. In the women's 200 medley relay, Williams won the event by about 2 seconds. The race was highlighted by outstanding splits from all four members:
Irene Yang,
Anna Doherty,
Maggie Farley and
Sophie Phelps.
To carry on the momentum,
Lily Codd came out swinging in the 1000 freestyle. She swam an aggressive race, posting an impressive time of 10:26.39. Tufts claimed gold, but Codd and teammate
Kyla Kelley took 2nd and 3rd.
Gracie O'Connell also swam a strong race from the end lane, placing 5th.
In the 200 yard freestyle,
Esme Van Orden wasted no time cruising to a 1:54.08. She showcased her sprinting abilities with an impressive 54.35 opening 100, and held on to take first place. She was joined by teammate
Carter Roebuck who placed 4th with a 1:58.81.
Irene Yang and
Alden White went 1-2 in the 100 backstroke posting quick times of 57.24 and 58.06 respectively. The duo later raced in the 200 backstroke, with White taking 1st in a time of 2:05.94 and Yang touching second with a 2:06.21.
In a tightly contested race,
Anna Doherty and
Bernadette Ramoy put their heads down and finished 2nd and 4th to Trinity and Tufts. Both were sub 1:08, marking impressive swims.
The 200 butterfly was a thrilling race in that Williams went 1-2-3-5. Following the 1000 free,
Lily Codd stepped up and crushed a 200 butterfly in an impressive 2:05.38. She was joined by
Isabella Castano in 2nd, racing in her first collegiate individual event,
Maggie Farley in 3rd, and
Ruby Groves in 5th. The Eph Women embraced their depth in this event.
Sophie Phelps took the 50 freestyle in a lightning quick 24.01.
Annika Chu placed 3rd and
Clare McDermott was 5th. The Eph Women sprinters took the 100 freestyle after.
Esme Van Orden crushed the heat posting a 52.79. This marks her first individual 100 freestyle of the season, with more to come.
Doherty won the 200 breaststroke, again, racing a tough field. She was joined by teammate
Nora Sherman who placed third. Both swam smart races and were able to close well.
The 500 freestyle was won by Tufts, however
Lily Codd,
Kyla Kelley and
Gracie O'Connell all put up great swims to take 2nd, 4th and 5th. Following their 1000 earlier in the meet, the three performed well in the shorter distance event of the meet.
Van Orden then won her third event of the meet, the 100 butterfly. She went out fast in a 26.64, but was able to hold on to touch in a 57.18. She was joined by a strong contingent of Williams butterfly swimmers.
In the last individual event of the meet, 4 Eph Women swam in the 400 IM. Phelps took 1st in an impressive 4:31.71 to Tufts'Â Madeline Dunn who also swam a very strong race. Doherty and Yang took 3rd and 4th, showcasing the depth in the IM events.
On the diving side, junior
Ashley Loh had an incredible meet. She took 1st place on 3M, highlighted by her final two dives. This performance earned her a regional cut. She also put up an impressive performance on the 1M board, placing 2nd.
The Eph Women concluded the meet with a victory in the 200 yd freestyle relay. Across the board the team swam some really strong races today, helping secure the victory over Tufts, Trinity and WPI. The team looks forward to their upcoming invitational in a couple of weeks.
