WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Williams College men's basketball team utilized a balanced attack Tuesday evening, as 13 Ephs scored during an 87-41 triumph against MCLA in Chandler Gymnasium.
Sophomore
Aidan Yates led the Ephs (5-0) with a game-high 16 points, shooting 6 of 11 from the floor and 2 for 5 on 3-pointers, while also tallying six rebounds, three assists and two blocks. First-years
Solomon Marshall and
Wes Gudeman scored their first collegiate points in the victory.
Other standout performances for Williams came from junior
Matt DeVine (13 points), senior
Hudson Hansen (11 points, 5 for 6 from the field), sophomore
Jackson Rein (10 points) and senior
Onyeraluobu Chibuogwu (9 points, 5 rebounds).
Colin Quinn led the way for the Trailblazers (1-3), as he finished with a team-high 13 points and shot 3 for 7 from beyond the 3-point line.
Williams shot 53.0% from the field (35 for 66) and limited MCLA to 21.0% shooting from the field (13 for 62). The Ephs led the rebounding category, 49-36, and held an 18-4 advantage in assists, while forcing 17 MCLA turnovers.
The Ephs scored the first nine points of the game and built a 20-5 advantage with 7:27 left in the first half on a layup by Rein. A layup by sophomore
Dylan Shepherd with two seconds on the clock sent the hosts into halftime with a 39-17 advantage. The Ephs did not allow the Trailblazers to get any closer, as DeVine scored 11 second-half points on 4-of-4 shooting from the floor, including a 3-for-3 effort on 3-point shots.
The Ephs will compete at Rhode Island College on Sunday at 3 p.m.
