FAIRFAX, Va. - The Williams College wrestling team opened is 2025-26 season on Saturday at George Mason University, facing off against Division I competition in a quad that included the hosts, as well as The Citadel, Campbell University, and Bloomsburg University.
The team took several individual wins throughout the day in a long day on the mats.
"We had a hard task today and we are grateful for the four D1 programs that gave us the opportunity to test ourselves," said Head Coach Scott Honecker. "These guys really delivered— our compete level was through the roof for every minute of all 40 matches. Â
"We laid a good foundation for what we stand for. I love watching the way our guys band together and embrace the challenges that come our way. I'm excited for them to perform next weekend in their own gym. If we can continue the energy we had this weekend, success will come our way."
The team faced its strongest competition of the day in its first of four meets, dropping a 45-0 result to The Citadel. The Ephs narrowed the gap in its next outing against Campbell, falling 28-14, followed by a 30-6 loss to Bloomsburg and a tight 31-23 loss against GMU to close the day.

The other Eph to win twice was first-year Jake Strianese, who had a technical fall against Campbell and a decision over Bloomsburg.Â
