DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Sophomores
Jackson Rein and
Aidan Yates of the Williams College men's basketball team combined for 41 points in a 94-56 triumph over Knox Friday during the Daytona Beach Shootout.
Rein equaled a career-high 21 points and shot 4 for 7 on 3-pointers (57.1%) for the Ephs (7-2), while Yates finished with a personal-best 20 points, including going 4 of 5 from beyond the arc and 4 for 4 from the free-throw line. Senior forward
Hudson Hansen also reached double figures in scoring, dropping 13 points, while shooting 5 for 6 from the field (83.3%).
The Ephs stormed out to a 15-3 advantage on a trey by Rein with 14:12 remaining in the first half. Williams took a 45-25 advantage into the break on two made free throws by Hansen with 16 seconds remaining.
Williams won the second half, 49-31, and refused to allow the Prairie Fire (5-5, 1-2 Midwest Conference) to get closer than 19 in the final 20 minutes. Rein scored 11 points in the second half and first-year forward
EJ Sommers tallied six points and five boards, while shooting 3 for 4 from the field. Junior guard
Matt DeVine also shot 3 for 4 from the field in the second half and added in six points.
Williams shot 61.0% from the field for the game (36 for 59) and 48.3% from long range (14 of 29). The Ephs held a 24-7 advantage in points off turnovers and a 42-26 lead in points in the paint.
The Ephs compete against Carleton Saturday at 4 p.m. in Daytona Beach, Florida.
