WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Williams College women's basketball team returned home Friday night and claimed a 60–50 victory over Wellesley College in the opening round of the Shooting Touch Tournament, improving to 5–3 on the season.
The Ephs set the tone early on the defensive end, holding Wellesley to just 16 first-half points to take a 24–16 lead into the break. Williams then delivered its strongest stretch in the third quarter, outscoring the Blue 22–14 and extending the advantage to their largest lead of 16 points.
Amaya Chase-Luthra paced the Ephs with 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting, including a pair of threes.
Logan Coster recorded her first double-double of the season, posting 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Off the bench,
Gracie Augustine contributed nine points and five rebounds, knocking down one of Williams' five threes.
The Ephs shot 34.8% from the field but controlled the game on the boards, outrebounding Wellesley 53–33. Williams also dominated the paint with a 34–22 scoring edge and received 22 points from its bench.
Defensively, the Ephs forced 15 turnovers and converted them into 16 points.
Williams returns to action tomorrow at 3 p.m., taking on Eastern Connecticut State in the Championship Game of the Shooting Touch Tournament.
