Annie Gallagher scored twice and senior goaltender
Erin Pye made 39 saves for the Williams College women's ice hockey team during a 2-1 win at No. 9-ranked Plattsburgh State Saturday afternoon.
"I am so proud of the team for a huge win against a top-ranked opponent today," said head coach
Meghan Gillis. "Erin showed up and made countless key saves and Annie contributed the offense. It was a total team effort heading into a long break."
The Ephs (4-1-2, 0-1-1 NESCAC) opened the scoring at the 3:58 mark of the second period, as junior
Celine Mayer (2 assists)Â ripped a shot from the left point that was saved by Cardinals' goalkeeper Chloe Lewis. Gallagher followed up the rebound and buried a shot from the edge of the crease.
On the power play, Mayer fired a shot that went wide of the net and ricocheted off the boards, and then Gallagher backhanded a shot into the net from the same position she scored the first goal, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead with 6:11 remaining in the second period.
Zoe Puc scored for the Cardinals (5-4-0, 4-0-0 SUNYAC) on the power play at the 7:03 mark of the third period. Williams went 1 for 2 on the power play and Plattsburgh was 1 of 3 with the advantage.
The Ephs compete against Lake Forest College on Friday, Jan. 2, at 4 p.m. in Lansing Chapman Rink.
