WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Williams College women's ice hockey team put in a dominant team performance on Friday afternoon at Lansing Chapman Rink, beating visiting Lake Forest College by a 5-0 score.
The Ephs had five different scorers in the game, and goaltender Erin Pye made 20 saves to earn her first shutout of the season.
Williams was all over the Foresters early in the game, peppering shots on net but Lake Forest goalie Lily Peterfeso stood on her head, making 15 saves in the opening period to keep the game scoreless going into the first intermission.
In the second period, the Ephs finally broke through after 14:50, when Maddie Samaan broke up a Foresters attack and played a pass forward for Isa Healey, who skated in on goal and tucked her shot into the top corner.
Just under five minutes later, the Ephs doubled their lead. Savana Littlewood won a puck in the attacking zone and left the puck for Claire Murphy, whose shot evaded several players and found the back of the net.
In the third period, an end-to-end goal from senior Chloe Noxon lit up the arena. Gathering the puck near her own blue line, the captain skated behind her own net before going past every Forester player and shooting high to make it 3-0.
The Ephs stayed in control and were able to add an empty-net goal with 41 seconds left, with Littlewood scoring off an assist from Lucie Bond. Just four seconds of game time later, with the Foresters goalie back in net, some excellent puckwork gave Williams the fifth and final goal, as Bond shot home with assists to Charlotte Fetherston and Noxon.
Pye was excellent throughout the night, making a few difficult stops to keep Lake Forest off the board. The shutout was her first of the season and seventh in her career.
The Ephs will be back in action on Tuesday, traveling to face Utica University on Tuesday evening.
