Williamstown, MA – The Williams College Ephs (8-12-3) hosted the #11 Hamilton College Continentals (17-5-1) tonight in Lansing Chapman Rink. It was a difficult night for the Ephs, as they fell 5-0. Williams will now be looking at a must win game tomorrow afternoon against Amherst to secure a playoff spot.
The first period started out with an uphill battle as Hamilton scored in the opening minutes. Williams found a surge of energy midway through the frame.
David Vieten was a leading figure in the offensive charge that gave the Ephs life as the period ended.
Brady Welsch also had a great look walking in alone on the Hamilton goalie that showed weakness in the Continental's defense.
The second and third period were difficult for Williams. Despite opportunities on the power play, there seemed to be something holding the Ephs back. Credit tgoes o the Hamilton goaltender who played well. The Ephs kept working their way through the neutral zone, found some strong offensive zone opportunities, but could never capitalize.
Williams remains in the 8
th position in the NESCAC playoff picture, they are guaranteed to stay there if they win in regulation tomorrow. Amherst will come to Lansing Chapman Rink for that 3:00 o'clock game tomorrow.
Eph head coach
Bill Kangas had this to say after the game, "Hamilton played a very solid game, capitalizing on their opportunities and limiting our chances. Since we were unable to convert on our grade A looks, it was more difficult to close the scoring gap. We know we have to collectively be better prepared tomorrow as we finish our regular season against Amherst."
