Williams Falls In Intense Battle With Trinity College 13-9

Williamstown, MA - The Williams College Ephs (2-4,0-3 NESCAC) hosted the Trinity College Bantams (5-2,1-2) at Farley-Lamb Field this afternoon. With great pressure in the first quarter, Williams took a strong lead to start the game. After that it was a battle for the rest of the afternoon all over the field. Despite the score being evened at the start of the fourth quarter, Williams ultimately lost as time wound down by a score of 13-9.

The first quarter began exactly how Williams would have planned. Ian Kim gained possession off the draw and in the first 40 seconds Jesse Shapiro put the Ephs on the board. Harrison Cross, Jesse, and Seamus Regan all put up tallies for Williams in the ensuing 10 minutes. Despite one goal from Trinity to end the quarter, it was shaping up to be a strong showing for Williams.

The second quarter was a battle. 5 goals for Trinity, but 2 from Williams. After Trinity's first goal, Will Doran scored a great pass from Ryan Johnson to try and shut down any negative momentum. Jesse Shapiro and Harrison cross linked up with another great response goal after Trinity's second, keeping Williams ahead by 3. It was a hard fought final 6 minutes as Trinity managed to capitalize on a few of their chances, but things were still all even at 6 going into the second half.

There were some great plays by both sides in the third quarter. Trinity got things going, but Williams was right there to respond. Only 2 minutes separated Jesse Shapiro's goal from the first of Trinity's, and only 1 minute separated Shapiro''s second of the quarter from Trinity's third. It was 9-8 Trinity at the end of three and this was still anyone's game.

Williams came out the gate ready to go. Jesse Shapiro tallied his 6th goal of the day bringing the Ephs back to even with Trinity just 4 minutes into the 4th. Unfortunately, that would be it offensively for Williams today, as Trinity managed to capitalize on the chances they had and took this game 13-9.

Eph head coach George McCormack had this to say after the game, "I'm very proud of the way our team has consistently competed all year. With the exception of the Wesleyan game we've been either tied or separated by a goal late into the 4th quarter. We will focus on finishing games going forward and we are excited to continue to learn and grow from the great opponents that we will be playing on the remainder of our schedule."
