Ephs Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 15-2

CLAREMONT, CALIF. -- Williams women's lacrosse took advantage of a strong start to push to a 15-2 victory against the CMS Athenas on Monday night. Playing in their first game of a West Coast road trip over spring break, the Ephs looked poised and comfortable en route to a decisive win. Williams goes to 3-3 with the win, while CMS drops to 4-5.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Ephs broke the early deadlock, as Katy McCullough netted a goal off of a good find from Juliet Kilborn with 11:08 remaining in the first quarter.

  • Williams capitalized on a woman-up advantage after a foul on the Athenas' Grace Minturn, with Cece Tauber firing a shot home on a feed from Franny Donohue to put the Ephs ahead 2-0 with 9:38 to play in the first quarter.

  • Just 46 seconds later, Ainsley Abel extended the Williams lead with her fifth goal of the season.

  • Two more goals in quick succession gave the Ephs an early 5-0 lead. First, Donohue slotted one home on an assist from Grace Collier. 40 seconds later, Donohue found Claudia Russell, who deposited her shot into the back of the net with 6:44 to go in the first quarter.

  • After over four scoreless minutes, Ella Brown got CMS on the board. She converted a free-position attempt to cut the lead to 5-1 with 2:20 to play in the first quarter. That 5-1 scoreline held until the quarter's end, despite a Donohue effort hitting the post with only a second remaining.

  • Russell gave the Ephs an early boost of offense in the second quarter. She first scored on a feed from Donohue with 13:51 to play in the half. Close to two minutes later, she displayed some individual brilliance, causing a CMS turnover, picking up a ground ball, and firing home a goal to extend the Ephs' lead to 7-1 with 12:03 to play in the second.

  • Donohue continued to make impact plays, first assisting on Katy McCullough's goal which gave Williams an 8-1 lead with 11:24 remaining in the second quarter, then scoring a free-position attempt of her own to make it 9-1 with 9:53 to go.

  • The Ephs closed the half strong, as Russell found the back of the net again with 4:29 to play in the half for her fourth goal of the game. Then, Donohue beat the buzzer with a great finish to give Williams an 11-1 halftime lead.

  • Williams opened the third quarter scoring, as Russell assisted Kilborn to make it 12-1 with 11:37 on the clock.

  • Lauren Morganlander got involved in the scoring, firing her second goal of the season home to pull the lead to 13-1 with 6:56 to play in the third quarter.

  • Williams took a 14-1 lead into the fourth quarter after Liz Kim hit Ainsley Abel for a nice goal with 2:43 to play in the third.

  • Eleven scoreless fourth quarter minutes elapsed before Kim netted a goal that made the score 15-1 with 3:56 to play in the game.

  • CMS was able to score on a woman-up advantage, as Minturn finished to make it 15-2 with 34 seconds remaining in what would be the final goal of the match.
