Claremont, California -- The Ephs dropped a tough match 6-1 to the #5 ranked Pomona-PitzerSagehens.
In doubles, the Ephs came close to stealing the doubles point, but ultimately dropped it. At #1 doubles, Jane Ladaga and Yuu Ishikawa continued their win streak, taking down a tough team 6-4. Mia Roets and Julia Zhang dropped a close one 6-4. It came down to court #3, where Margaux Molyneux and Mia Thomann were able to get it to 6-6. Unfortunately, they dropped the breaker, and the Sagehens took the doubles point.
Down 0-1, the Ephs battled on all 6 courts in singles. Molyneux and Thomann, at #3 and #4, both fell in their respective positions. Roets dominated at #5, taking her match 6-2, 6-2 with her unbeatable consistency. Ishikawa and Zhang also fell at the #1 and #2 positions. However, Zhang fought back in her second set, only narrowly losing 7-4 in the set tie breaker. Ahn Lin was the last match out at #6, where she was playing many long points against a very consistent player. Despite her fight, she also fell 6-3, 6-4.
Assistant coach Andrew Dorr remarked, "This match taught us some valuable lessons and we're ready to clean up a few things in practice. Looking forward to closing out spring break with another challenge at Point Loma."
The Ephs are now headed back to San Diego to wrap up their spring break trip. They will play Point Loma Nazarene University at 4 PM PT on April 1st before heading back to Williamstown.
