WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Williams College Athletics Department held its annual Senior Athlete Recognition Ceremony on Saturday at the '62 Center for Theatre and Dance, as

Matt Wetmore (Men's Lacrosse),
Abby Murphy (Women's Crew),
Sydney Fleming (Softball),
Noah Phipps (Men's Crew),
Linda Bibeau (Field Hockey),
Oliver Schalet (Men's Swimming & Diving) and
Sophia Verkleeren (Women's Swimming & Diving) were honored with end-of-the-year awards.
Wang and Zhang earned the Canby Award, Landau and Wetmore took home the Ephmanship Award and Murphy and Fleming were recognized with the Kate Hogan Women's Athletic Award. Phipps (William E. Hoyt, Jr. '23), Bibeau (Class of 1925 Scholar Athlete) Schalet (Men's Purple Key) and Verkleeren (Women's Purple Key) rounded out the honorees.
Wang and Zhang led the men's soccer team to two NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, reaching the national championship game in 2022 and the Sweet 16 in 2024. Landau finished her career with 20 goals and 10 assists, as she helped guide the women's lacrosse program to a No. 10 ranking in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll in 2024.
Wetmore started all 17 games in goal senior year, as the men's lacrosse team received an at-large bid into the 2025 NCAA Tournament. During the 2023 season, Murphy was part of the women's crew team that won the NESCAC Championship for the first time in seven years and was also a member of the Second Varsity Eight boat that earned a bronze medal at the NCAA Championship.
Fleming qualified for three NCAA Tournaments and won two NESCAC Championships, capping her career by being named NESCAC Softball Player of the Year in 2025. Phipps earned a gold medal with his men's crew teammates during the grand final of the First Varsity Eight during the 2023 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship.
Bibeau powered the field hockey team to three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, including the Final Four stage in 2022 and 2024. Schalet earned first-place laurels in the NESCAC Career High-Point Swimmers category this past season. Verkleeren was a six-time NCAA champion and three-time NESCAC Swimmer of the Year.
The Class of 2025 has left an incredible legacy, as 30 members earned at least one All-American honor and 57 student-athletes were recognized with one or more NESCAC All-Conference awards. The group prioritized the importance of academic success with 141 individuals being named to at least one NESCAC All-Academic Team. The unit worked together to achieve greatness, winning 22 NESCAC Team Championships, while also emerging victorious or earning a share of 50 Little Three Titles over the past four years.
